Best Android APP for riding
Ok so I work for Verizon and I have tons of people coming in and asking me really stupid questions that their 10 year old grandson could answer for them. Occasionally I will have the runner/biker/blah-blah-blaher come in and ask if I know of any apps that are great for that kind of stuff.
I get very excited when they ask because I grab my droid X and show them SportsTracker.
It’s a free app that records your speed, distance, average speed, max altitude, average altitude and so much more. It’s really fun, and the best part of all of that is that you can upload it strait to facebook! All you do is turn it on and put it in your seat pack and go!
Anyways does anyone know of any other good tracker things like this?
If so, do tell!

Not free but inexpensive is AllSportGPS by Trimble Outdoors.com. Does more than just biking but I use it mostly for biking. You can create trips, follow them on your phone or just have your phone follow you. Keeps track of miles, elevation, speed and more. Uploads all stuff to a web page online also. There is a trial program also.

I use cardio trainer. I like it pretty well. Comes with splits now for every mile now and tells you calorie burned (not accurate) but then tells you how many banana or avocados or whatever you can eat. Although reading this I might switch to mytracks.

You really think VZW is carrying the iPad just so they can sell their MiFi device? Pfft. Business rookie I say.

Cool thread. Didn't know about mytracks. Downloaded and will check it out. However, I've been using Trail Guru and it's pretty cool. Gives fairly basic info during the ride like speed, distance, current elevation, elapsed time as well as an overall odometer which is kind of cool. The really cool part though, and I just discovered this, is you can upload your ride, run, whatever to their website and get a whole bunch more info like total ascent/descent, max/min elevations, max/min speed, calories burned (so so accuracy but you can set your weight and get a bit better), etc. Also shows your ride in google maps, can download to google earth, post to facebook. Pretty decent tool overall for free. Can't compare yet to mytracks but seems at least as good based on initial impression.

Obviously he's just a salesperson. The CDMA chipset orders are verified, Apple and VZW have a resale agreement in place, and the major news sources have internal information that it's a go in early 2011.

I originally was using Move! Bike Computer (it's a free one on the Market) It is very customizable with a bunch of different functions (url for it is https://market.android.com/details?i...Computer&hl=en)
I also got AllSportsGPS from Amazon (free app of the day) and find I don't use it all that much. Though I plan on (eventually) getting a handle bar mount for my Driod X. I suppose that I'll use these more often when I get such. I don't use anything for candence or HRM with my phone. So, those features aren't such an issue with me.

My Tracks is pretty minimalistic and crude. There's not any reason to use it over the free version of CardioTrainer that I've seen.
CardioTrainer is the best if you stuff it in your jersey pocket and just ride, or if you have earphones for pace reminders.
RunKeeper is the best if you put your phone in a mount and pretend it's a Garmin. The dashboard isn't great but at least it exists. Doing this will eat up your battery life so keep it under 2 hr rides, assuming you start 100% charged.
All of them are compatible with the Polar Bluetooth HR monitoring which is actually a flakey piece of crap, but better than nothing when it works. Do not exit CT or RK, whichever you're using, when the HR monitor is active or it might disconnect and then you cannot reconnect without restarting the phone in my experience.
I've heard the Zephyr bluetooth HR monitor is better but you have to use MyTracks or Sportstracker with it, and I don't like those. I'll eventually just get a Garmin.

My favorite app to use while riding is Pandora. Makes hill repeats much, much more tolerable.
