Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What Headset for a Cannondale ?

I have a 2008 Cannondale Six 13 ... Just bare frame & fork.
What is a good middle-of-the-road headset for this ?
What "specs" do I need to match up to make sure it's compatible ?
Thanks

I always thought a headset was a headset. Just get the right size and off you go.

If I'm wrong please correct me with extreme prejudice.

not with integrated. the machining of the frame differs. i think campy is a 45 degree bevel. go to an online store like Jenson or Universal and you'll see the different types.

Just call Cannondale tech support. They'll probably put you thru to Andy, Brandon or Lars, they'll be able to tell you exactly what you need.

first check if it is integrated headset. the headtube will have the built in ledge for the bearing cartridges. if it is, it is either cancreek or campy standard. cane creek is 36deg inside 45 deg outside for the bearings. campy is 45 inside 45 outside. i got a cane creek standard integrated headset from fsa IS2. it is cheap and works just fine. I think they stopped calling it IS2 but orbit 2 now. they have a range of headsets including campy standard.

unfortunately you can't tell by looking at the headtube whether it is cane creek or campy. you have to ask cannondale.

Thanks. I've emailed them and waiting for a reply.

EDIT
Just got this:

" ... Our headsets are Campy hiddenset compatible, 45 x 45 bearing angles, 1 1/8 inch. Cane Creek, FSA and Ritchey make compatible headsets. ..."
