Depends. I stumbled into a good group that has a great organizer, goes out often and has some decent riders in it. There were also a couple of groups that were total duds. I just look to see who's signing up for a ride before I pull the trigger. This isn't my only source for group rides. But for the OP, if he's ambivalent about a team ride, this could be a good start.
