Recall Service Procedures at LBS

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Recall Service Procedures at LBS

I'm a bicycle newb, especially when it comes to dealing with a shop. I have, what I believe to be, a GREAT LBS.

Recently I saw an FSA crank recall notice on here. I've got a bike that is affected by that particular recall and would like to get it fixed. Since they built my bike and the recall states that only 'overtightened' bolts could face this problem, am I going to run into any resistance getting this service done under the recall? Is it typical that the shops know about all these bulletins like a car dealership and that they're typically more than happy to fix these issues?

I've recently had a bad accident on a bicycle, so I want to be sure that this potential issue is fixed. My 'guess' is that you're going to say: 'If they're a good bike shop they'll be happy to fix it'. Just want to be sure. Thanks!

Call them up and ask them. Be polite.

Usually a recall means they recall all the parts, even when only some of them have problems. This one (I assume it's the Gosamer BB30) says:

"Owners of bicycles with the affected cranks are being advised to stop riding them immediately and take the bike to a retailer where a replacement crank will be installed."

Which means that they'll replace it.
