Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Computer failure.

So my Cateye Astral 8 is shot and I am in for a new computer. Only requirements are the ability to enter prior miles, cadence, and the usual stuff. Any suggestions on good ones that accomplish these few requirements without going over $150.

How old is your Astrale 8? I bought mine in mid-2009 and have had no problems so far. If it bit the dust tomorrow I'd probably buy another Astrale 8 simply because I wouldn't have to re-do the wiring.

5 years. One thing I did not like about the astral was loosing the miles logged with battery changes and being unable to program in preexisting miles.

performancebikes has additional 20% off tomorrow from 9am-12pm, but doesn't mention time zone.

I replaced my Astrale 8 with the Cateye Strada Cadence, has pretty much everything i loved about the Astrale in a slimmer package. One note though, the mount was a little dodgy, but one cleverly-placed mini ziptie fixed that.

Does it allow you to enter in prior miles logged, if the battery needs replacement- do you loose the miles logged?

The Sigma range allow you to enter prior miles logged. I like my BC1606L with wireless cadence and speed - the same unit has been on two bikes in three years with nothing changed but the battery.

Yup. it will end up a bit more than your set upper limit but you can pick it up for $160 and amazon has the wireless cadence sensor for $35 and heart rate monitor strap for another $25. Very good deal IMHO.

Trek Incite (9I and 11I - I Think) have the capability of entering previous miles. Both have temperature on the display and cadence, etc. The 9I is all wired, the 11I is wireless version.

What about riding on a trainer-rear wheel sensor

Love mine. Does what I want it to do and pretty reasonably priced too.

I did and I appreciate the info. However from what I see it does not measure speed via the rear wheel. I would like this feature in order to keep the miles while on my trainer.

It has an option to turn GPS off when on trainer, so you can have speed/cadence from rear wheel. Just what the doctor ordered, no pun intended

I haven't checked now, but it was 199 and with the coupon code 753 another 20% was to be taken off, which brought it down to 160 (+tax if you had a performance bike in your state).

I know you said it has to be under $150, but I would highly recommend at least considering the Garmin 500. I can't ride without mine.
