4:31 -- with a competitive group, and serving as domestique for my girlfriend who finished third in 4:29.
100 mile race? The usual 4 hours at 25 mph.

I did a century this past weekend. It was fun, but the pacelines kinda pissed me off. i would be riding along, and then a paceline 20-30 riders long would blow by us. then, they'd all stop at the rest stop for a half hour, then I'd get passed again. I wanted to shoot them! Its alright to have a paceline thats a couple of riders long, like 6-7, but when it gets over 15 people, it gets really sketch. And no one there is really getting any type of a workout. I wonder if they know that this is the time when they should be doing base training.
as for my time, i did it at 18.6 mph. thats 5:22. not too bad. although, I was at the last rest stop for 30-40 minutes becuase (a) there was pie and ice cream there (b) the mechanic was trying to get my cleats to work...I couldn't clip in.

How about slowest or most fun century?
That was two weeks ago when it took nearly 8 hours and I never enjoyed the company of a woman more* than the six of those eight hours when I got to ride with her.
* well, outside of a sexual setting.

As for a workout, contrary to what you think it's the best sort. Essentially you're both motorpacing and doing intervals. Your time at the front is the interval. Sitting in is the motorpacing, given the pace is fast enough. And if any particular riders want a better workout, they simply sit on the front as long as they wish (without slowing the pace). Don't know about you, but those are the best workouts I can get. What else are you supposed to do, slow-poke along at 18.6 mph? If so, that's about as fast as you'll ever go. On the other hand, that fast paceline of 15 riders will have me fit enough to slow-poke along at 25 mph.
Woosh!!!..Right past you! And too fast for you to even take aim.

On my regular Saturday ride we have 4 riders. Three of us are close to equal with one guy being the weak link. We tow him for mile after mile but we don't care because if he pulled, he would blow at about the 2.5 hour point of a 4.5 hour ride. When everything is working and the boys are playing nice, we average 20+mph for 85 miles (2 water stops not calculated). The ride is actually much faster if there are no attacks. If one guy starts messing, the others retaliate and the weaker guy gets dropped, pissed off and then it all degenerates.

5:40 for my first (and only) century. Did it completely solo, first half with the wind, second half into the wind.

Simpson, you've got a 513
2:10 - averaged 50 mph w/ a 56 tooth chainring and an 11 tooth cog. But I had to stop to fix a flat (for someone else, it only took a minute 30 sec, but then we got to talking and it turned out he was from a town two towns over from me and knew my ex-girlfriend who lived in that town, and who was at the time dating his cousin. Small world! He was riding a 54-12 gear combo, which was favored by my ex-girlfriend's brother. Very strange.)
