Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

iPhone road cycling apps?

Is there a defacto #1 best iPhone app to track your road biking or are there dozens that I just need to try out and see what I like best?

I use iMapMyRIDE. The only thing about using a mobile device is if your carrier doesn't have a strong signal and you're out of their range.

I'm a fan of Cyclemeter. It's a great program for tracking your rides, and runs in the background on iOS4 devices. It also uses GPS for tracking and seems to be quite accurate, except for the total amount climbed, which seems to be inconsistent. You can easily export the info to different formats to share, including Google maps, GPX, KML, and CSV files. It also doen't use much battery when running, even though it's accessing the GPS all the time. On a 2hr ride, the program uses about 10% battery on my iP4.

Here's an example of the map link from the program:

Cyclemeter looks pretty cool with its Facebook integration. Anybody know if it'll integrate with Facebook Pages (such as my business page)?

It integrates via status updates, if I'm not mistaken. Just log in with your business account and it will update your business page with your current metrics every X minutes.

I'd de-friend you if you did that though.

Gotcha, thanks. I didn't realize it would post an update so often so that rules it out. Thanks again!

Can it use preloaded/stored maps, or does it rely on Google Maps and a data connection?
