Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

please explain this photo

This is one of the Boston Globe's photos of the year (https://www.boston.com/bigpicture/201...rt_2_of_3.html).
Can someone explain what happened to Mark's front wheel?

Oh yeah, the other explanation for this photo is that Cav is a d-bag, forgot that part.

Did the other half of the wheel just fall into a black hole or something? Where did it go?

He took a dive for money. Or, his race team was poor and was using a Walmart wheel set.

I think I got it.... He knows he's not a good sprinter and will loose the race and so is breaking his front wheel on purpose so he doesn't look bad loosing.

Too bad the commentary defending Cavendish is concreted into that video, blows my mind every time I watch it.... Seriously? Did he really think that wasn't Cav's fault?

I agree - however HH could learn to keep his head up in a field sprint..

Then again had he seen Cav coming over he might have paused/gotten out of the way, which is probably what Cav expected him to do.

His base layer saved him. It's always a good idea to wear a base layer.

It was a cloudy day, but the sun came out shortly before the sprint, and we all know what happens to carbon when the sun hits it.

Basic Physics, conservation of momentum.

Sort of like this, pay attention to the initial contact of the golf ball and the club.
