Nice folks say "hello". "Jerks and ASSbuckets" don't acknowledge...that pretty much sums it up. If someone takes the time to throw up a hand, and you're so high and mighty that you just ignor that person, then you are a charter member of one of the two clubs previously listed. Mail in your dues. I seldom waive first, but always respond in kind...called being courteous.

Nice folks do things because they are nice folks, not because they are expecting a response, and people who get angry when they don't get a response are well into the 'jerk' category.

"i saw a bearded man"
Well, there you go, OP. That was probably the important part of your story |
waive (wv)
tr.v. waived, waiv·ing, waives 1. To give up (a claim or right) voluntarily; relinquish. See Synonyms at relinquish. 2. To refrain from insisting on or enforcing (a rule or penalty, for example); dispense with: "The original ban on private trading had long since been waived" (William L. Schurz). 3. To put aside or off temporarily; defer. |
wave (wv)
v. waved, wav·ing, waves v.intr. 1. To move freely back and forth or up and down in the air, as branches in the wind. 2. To make a signal with an up-and-down or back-and-forth movement of the hand or an object held in the hand: waved as she drove by. 3. To have an undulating or wavy form; curve or curl: Her hair waves naturally. |
I've also noticed that cyclists don't wave much. I've owned Jeeps and motorcycles, two groups that ALWAYS wave at each other. Cyclists, not so much. I always wave, but about 75% of the other guys just ignore.

If your precious ego can't handle not being waved at, don't go to Europe.

I wave to everyone, pointlesslessly, like Benny Stulwitz at the mall on a busy Saturday afternoon.
It's exhausting, but it raises my TSS by at least 20%. |

I wave at everybody. Probably more of them laugh at me than wave back.
Guys on recumbents are always telling me "This is what you should be riding." I think it's because I'm fat, but I like to think they're all just evangelists. A while back, I accidentally clicked on the recumbent forum when I was meant to click on the road forum. It made me feel dirty. |

Well, in our defense, we tend to need both hands to ride depending on how hard we're riding. That's why I generally just give a friendly nod unless I'm costing.
