Have you checked out the blackset race tens from bicycle wheel warehouse. I'm running these right now and their great wheels. 14xx grams so their very light and their inexpensive. I've put about 1200 miles on mine so far and their still as true as the day i pulled them out of the box. I don't have any other wheelset to compare these to but for my needs their great. Its an all around wheelset for me, looking to race in my first crit early next year so they'll be used for that as well. Heres a review from another forum, better than my short write up.

ok sorry to keep bringing this tread back up but... since i couldnt get a confirmation on the williams system 30s i decided to call Mr Williams myself today. yes Xmas eve but i didnt expect to hear anything back till monday after leaving a message but guess what he called me back within a few hrs!! he explained where the variances could come from and how but its prety much what i had read before. basicly that the rim could weight a little more but hubs, spokes, nipples are prety dead on and that he figures most that had +100g differences weight the rims with rim tape on (+50g) plus up to +50g rim variance. that being said he recommended i go with the 19s do to my weight of 120lb. so outstanding customer services on his part and everything ive read about how great he is to deal with i beilieve is true..
honestly though i still thing im going with the Soul S3.0 SLs do to the 1400g weight and the rim height i was looking for. im just kinda nervous about how long i will be waiting on these wheels to get here. i sent an email to soul today but didnt get a chance to call. i will wait to see if i get a reply on Mon before i order anything and might even try to call if i dont get an email before later in the day. if they tell me there is a crazy long wait for the wheels or i can not get in touch with them by tue i will just go with the Williams wheels and take that as sign. so if anyone on here has ordered from soul recently or even ever and how that went. it seems odd not to be able to just pay on their web page. how long did it take for you to get your wheels after you placed the order? it says on their site 2 weeks but im not sure if that total time or just how long shipping will take. i can wait 2 weeks for a good set of wheel but im not going to wait 2 months. Thank you everyone for all your help i do really appreciate it and i know there are wheel threads like this all the time but hey it is winter after all.. |
Figured I would give you guys an update on my wheel decision since everyone was so much help. I decided to go with a set of Soul S2.0 SLs at 1330g and a 25mm rim profile I think they will suit my needs well. It will be 2 weeks before they ship (he is waiting on boxes to ship in). Wish I could get them sooner but I'm sure they will be worth the wait. In the mean time I ordered a Selle Itailia SLR fibra saddle (135g) and a set of Planet X CNC Ultralight brakes in red. With the wheels, saddle, and brakes I should be shaving close to 2lb of my bike!

Any idea what shipping expenses to Canada are for both Williams and Soul, and what (if any) customs charges apply ? I'm digging both companies but can't dig up any info on border fees.
|
Where are you located gurrback?? Close to the border?? If so, ship to a US address and go pick them up! That is your best bet...
Kieth will do it.... |

Kieth will do it.... Good idea. I'm headed down to the states in February so that sounds like a plan. |
i have a set of system 30s on their way now! should be here by next Fri. hopefully they wont come in over weight!! i ordered some super light rim tape to go on them and will get some kcnc ti skewers to go with them as well soon. if these work out i will get some Williams system 38 carbon clinchers or system 58 carbon tubulars in the spring before race season. i might even get a set of williams system 20 carbon clinchers as well for climbing. so hopefully i like these wheels! Keith was great to deal with and im sure his wheels are top notch. ill post my review of them and pics when they arrive.
|
So you got those and the Souls? Either way, you'll love the Williams - post your opinions after riding them a while. Great wheels.

IMO if you go carbon, tubs are the hot ticket - a straight up racing set. +1 to Beaker's suggestion to post your impressions after riding the 30's for a while. |

The 30's should be a good choice for a combination training/racing set in hilly terrain. You've also made points with she who must be obeyed. Sounds like win/win.

Thanks for the pic Pcad. those look really good. So does you bike.

I've heard nothing but good things about williams wheelsets. Would the 38's be noticeably different from my easton ea90 slx? I know it is a deeper wheel but I have been comparing carbon clinchers and I figure since I have the eastons i wanted something deeper than 38mm. There are the 58's, but man are those decals fugly.

with all the people that said they love their system 30s i thought we would see more pics posted. anyone?
|
No great pictures to hand - but here are my 19's on my black Roubaix, doing what they were designed for -- going up a hill.

nice system 19s. i thought about going with them but i think the 30s will work better as an all rounder
|
Here's my system 30s! Rock solid wheel, has been on a lot of rough roads and yet it is still true! Spoke tension is perfect after 1500 miles!
