Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Kurt Kinetic Road Machine - Accuracy of Power Curve Upper Limits?

BF loves anecdotal evidence, so I'm wondering what you guys with kurt kinetic road machines are able to hit in a sprint? I've been doing some low gear rollouts into full sprints (seated) and am wondering if I'm either amazing (most definitely not) or if the power curve is a little messed up nearing and above 40 mph. Thanks, happy holidays, blah blah blah.

P.S. For anyone else who has been on here tonight, I'm sad the Otto thread got deleted, I wanted some closure....

From searching, 40'ish mph on the road with a powertap is about 1200-1500watts.

40mph on a KK road machine using the equation they provide comes out to 1469watts.

I wouldnt' ever want to compare KK estimated watts to actual watts, but it seems like its in the ballpark. Useful for comparing against yourself, and possibly others on road machines as well.

I'll have to see how fast I can get up to on mine. 40mph on it sounds pretty brutal.

Bikes: Race bike, training bike, go fast bike and a trainer slave.

I found that the KK measures about 15% high on power....This is when doing longer intervals 10min, 20 min...

This is whilst comparing my Powertap numbers with the KK power curve...

Like the poster above states, the KK power curve is useful for you to set training goals/plans, but you really can't compare it to real world power numbers.

KK actual watts by my PT is always about 20 watts lower than predicted by the curve. This is for 150-300 watt efforts, I haven't tried to do higher wattage levels.

Yeah 40mph on the KK sounds brutal indeed. I can sprint in the upper 30's outside, but the most I've done on the KK was like 33mph. I'll have to see where I can max it out later on my trainer session today. I don't use the KK computer though, so it may not be real accurate. I just have a cheap computer, and a magnet on the rear wheel.

I too have noticed that my PT gives me a lower number (10-15%) than the KK power curve.
