Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I would hate to work customer service at a tire company. Sure, there have been some real head-scratcher manufacturing problems with tires recently. However, if you ride a bike you are going to get flats.

There are a lot of videos on youtube showing you how to change a flat. It's worth watching a few of them

I just received my Schwalbe Ultremo R.1's and have put 400 miles on them using ultra light tubes, and knock on wood everything is great. A few days ago I was not paying attention and ran over a tree branch. I figured I would at least get a flat or a puncture, but nothing. Not even a mark on the tires. So far so good, and they feel great.

I think the guy does know how to change out a tube... I think... because he says he put the GP4000s on... I think. I'm really giving him the benefit of the doubt here.

But the real question is still: What was the pressure in the Schwalbes when he went out and suffered the punctures?

My betting is, not high enough to stop the tyres from feeling spongy and suffering pinch flats.

Notice the ~. I have no idea how much a single patch costs. They come what, 10 to a pack, for $2-3?

And just between you and me..... I'm pretty sure I wasn't entirely accurate about how much I paid for a CO2 cart either.

I am with the OP on this one.
I had bad luck with the Schwalbe Marathon Racers on my touring bike.

On The 42 Ride NY to LA, I had Ten flats in the first 2600 miles.
Other riders commented, why you having so many flats?

Shoot, I've had flats on both the front and rear Gatorskins on the same 25 mile ride. That's what taught me to carry two spare tubes, a patch kit, and three CO2 cartridges on every ride. Now I'm looking for a mini-pump that can mount to the side of my bottle cage...just in case.

I think the OP should quit being a whiney biotch and learn how to fix a flat on the road like all good road cyclist know how to do.

And, maybe the OP should try Schwalbe Durano or Durano Plus--very puncture resistant. Most of my good weather riding is done on those.

Topeak Mini-pumps come with mounts for bottle cages and can pump to a high psi

For $1.99, I get a patch kit with 7~9 patches, a tube of rubber cement, and a piece of sand paper. What that works out to, as far as cost per patch, is beyond my math skills. Pretty cheap, is all I know.

https://www.amazon.com/Topeak-Micro-R...8&sr=8-1-spell

I wanted something small as well and picked that up and it works well. I've only used it once, i mainly used it to seat my tube when i got a flat. Used c02 after that and was up and riding again within 10 minutes.

You'll want to get the beside the waterbottle cage mount from performance. As cool as Topeaks are, their mounts are huge and not "beside the waterbottle cage"

Uhhhh...my Topeak bottle cage mount uses the bottle cage bolts and places the pump right next to the bottle cage. The mount is tiny.

Whoops. You are correct. I was thinking Road Morph (the Topeak I love), which does fit my description.

Thanks, all! I've got a Road Morph, and tried attaching it to the bottom of the top tube...didn't like it there. I'm going to check out the little one.

@pdedes and Looigi, is that the Lezyne Road Drive? Nice looking but hard to match up against all the models I see online.

Yes, running over everyday crap in a bike lane..surprising I know...yet the tires go flat. Who would have thought.

Yes, assign blame to **** tire manufacturer, the tires are crap..2 get a flat with minor everyday road debris...I don't ride on the ice smoot boardwalk lik you in Jersey Shore with Snooki.

Flame onward Fred!!!

I've put thousands of miles on Schwalbes and I really like them. And dude - I've had 3 flats on one ride before. It happens. Lastly, Ultremos are pretty much a race tire. For commuting or training I like using a more heavy duty tire.
