Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Data fields on the elevation page (Garmin 800)

Does anybody know how to change these? This is the trouble with touch screens. A couple days ago, I ... did something ... and now the data fields on that page show heading and speed, instead of total ascent and current elevation. Knowing how much I've climbed is very useful, for pacing myself over a long weekend and in training for some mountain rides.

This is a stupid question, but I have no idea how I did this, and I just moved, so the book is buried somewhere, and Google hasn't been helpful on this one. Have any other Edge 800 owners figured out how to change the data fields on the elevation chart page? I know how to change the ones on the bike computer training page, but that area of the menus doesn't have what I need.

I don't have the 800 but a different touch screen garmin and I and just press and hold a field to get a list of alternatives. You could give that a try.

You have the Oregon? I used to have one of those... The Edge is kind of similar, but doesn't let you touch a data field and then choose what to replace it with; there's a setup menu for the "training page" where you set each of them. With the Oregon, I found I'd change fields all the time without realizing it if I forgot to lock the screen, and I suspect this is why the Edge is a little more cumbersome for setting things up. But the menu where you do this doesn't have a setting for the elevation plot - well, it does, but it only lets you decide whether this page shows up at all.

Thanks for the suggestion, though!

The owner's manual and quick start guide are online at Garmin's website: Garmin 800 Owner's manual & Garmin 800 QSG
