Kill me now, please

I took my back up wheels out for a spin today, set of Mavic vanilla rims that I just bought for next to nothing and picked up this morning at my LBS, they were OEM on my Orbea and the shop just had them lying around, I knew they would serve a good purpose for bad weather and winter training and then...after I finished the ride I noticed the following...

THE PLASTIC SPOKE PROTECTOR WAS STILL ON THE WHEEL!!!!!!

I may never ride again...I actually left the house with that THING on the bike....

What can I do to limit my losses? What would you do if you were me?

Any advice would be appreciated

Go find a pair of pliers, it doesn't matter if they're cheapos, slip joint, or needle nose, and break that sucka off.

My rant on 'em.

My advice is to get over it. Nobody cares. You people are pathetic.

NeoBinary 10-16-04 07:10 PM

I think the important thing here is to stay calm.

Remember, bad things happen to good people. Did anybody see you? Couldn't you feel it back there?

If you can pull yourself together, GO CUT IT OFF!!!

Dude...it was horrible, horrible, horrible. I didn't know it was there, but when I got done with the ride, I looked down and all of a sudden I was wearing Tan shorts, Keds, and a striped button down shirt...

The Scary thing is that I started the ride in full Santini!!!!!!

I bet lots of people saw you too! :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

SteveE 10-16-04 07:42 PM

Leave it on and just put a bag over your head while riding.

zensuit 10-16-04 07:43 PM

At least one guy saw me...or maybe two...but what about all those people in cars...oh God, I didn;t think about them...

What if 53-11 saw me?

I care!

53-11 was going so fast, you were just a blur. I'm sure he couldn't have recognized you in the nanosecond that it took him to blast past you.

galen_52657 10-16-04 07:51 PM

You think that's bad, today I rode with a guy who not only had a spoke protector, but the thing was no longer centered on the hub and went around all wobbly-like. I watched for about an hour before I was hypnotized and ran off the road...

Well..if he sees you again... you HAVE to chase him down, drive him to the curb, both crash>do a ninja roll>reach back>snap offa piece of spoke protector>hold to to his nekkid throat and say.." Mention the plastic, I'll KILL YOU *****!"

ruirui 10-16-04 08:05 PM

so how do you guys remove the spoke protector? do you just just go and cut or crack that sucka off? will the whole thing come off cleanly or will there still be some parts left on there?

It all depends on whether anyone saw you riding with it on. Be on the lookout for subtle smirks or dismissive glances from your fellow roadies over the next few weeks. If you see any (or think you might have), you will just have to move to another city. If not you can just soldier on with your inner anguish. You might take up drinking if that helps.

That just warms the heart. If we save just one person, just one person, none of our efforts are wasted.

Don't worry about it, you'll be fine, unless the local paper finally decided to do an article on cycling, and you'll be on the front of the sports section with a half page shot from the right side as you rode by.

NeoBinary 10-16-04 09:20 PM

Bad news......
Looks like the photos have already leaked.
