The snail gets his wings!

So I decided to make my own bike thread. This way I'll be able to show what I've done so far...

I started with a Rocky Mountain Solo CX

I always took care of it like it was my child, it was a bit too small but still good enough to have a LOT of fun with it and get started into this cycling addiction (blue tires were a really bad idea though... better than the camo tape but still a bad idea. Oh sure it looked awesome when I had my blue kit+blue water bottles but when I remembered I had two kits and the other one had yellow in it I like facepalmed myself quite badly)

Now when I first received the frame I did what I was able to do with it.
just to have a little idea of how nice it would be and I was pleased. There were a few useless sticker on it and it wasn't even cleaned. There was also some camo tape in the box with it... LOL
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC01943.jpg

then tried a little transplant from my CX bike. (nicer cages too)
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC01959.jpg

since there's a limitation to how many pictures I can put in a single post:notamused: I'll stop there and wait a bit later to upload some other pictures...

alexvpaq 01-20-11 06:46 PM

Or not!

so yesterday I received the group :O

Bunch of cables woohoo!
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC02213.jpg

Brakes ( I actually had them before...)
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC02222.jpg

Shifters ( take note that I haven't yet taken the protective sticker off the alluminium part) I was glad to learn that you can double shift with them a bit like Campagnolo except less and you do not have that silly thumb shifter
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC02184.jpg

Blurry but these are real world colors.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC02206.jpg

They messed up the BB so they are already sending me a new one for free not Ita/Eng this time...
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...DSC02187-1.jpg
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC02208.jpg

11-25 cassette, Like I said before, I thought these things came already assembled, I was shocked LOL
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC02186.jpg

Cool chain
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC02211.jpg

Everything else in the next post

alexvpaq 01-20-11 06:50 PM

RD is looking real nice, the middle part is shiny black and the other part is matte with a small point of shiny black in it. Awesome
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC02210.jpg

Here's the FD crappy picture but it's nothing more than a FD...
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC02209.jpg

awesome looking crank
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC02216.jpg

I made the picture a bit bigger for this one so all will be able to be amazed by how awesome it is :) I really, really like the color!
I know it's just a plain feeling but it's a lot lighter than what I had on my CX bike and for some reason that I can't explain it feels stiff nonetheless.
http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC02214.jpg

But now I can't install the crank and everything since they messed up the BB but it's winter and I can wait.
So I'll post more pictures later!

rjones28 01-20-11 06:53 PM

That's going to be a sweet ride. Can't wait to see the rest of the assembly details.

Quel 01-20-11 06:53 PM

So far so good. Is that razors old frame? Needs camo bar tape or else it'll be cursed.

alexvpaq 01-20-11 07:06 PM

Yes it was his frame but that didn't stop me, I like danger and for the curse I had to do some rituals and a ceremony to take it off but it should be rideable now.

And What is actually missing are some black tires,
shoes and pedals.
I ordered some speedplay zero, I hope they wont try to kill me like my shimano mtb pedals.
My scar 5 months later...
(Big ring ftw)

Epic leg hairs, It's winter over here, so I'm not cycling outside and so I'm not shaving.

M_FactorX19 01-20-11 07:12 PM

great start. keep the pics coming

Camo tape + useless stickers. Do you need to ask?

Don't forget the fact that it wasn't even cleaned up.

CNY James 01-20-11 08:25 PM

where did you buy your components?

eippo1 01-20-11 09:57 PM

Awesome pictures of all the good stuff. Keep it going as you build it up.

KiuBWhy 01-20-11 10:25 PM

From ribble I had the whole groupset for really really cheap compared to everywhere else. if it wasn't of that silly mistake with the BB everything would have been more than perfect, on the other hand it's winter and I can't even try it for real anyway so I can wait. They're going to send a free one and I'll have a weird Eng/Ita BB now LOL.

Adrianinkc 01-20-11 10:48 PM

Good luck with the build. 105 is nice.

mzeffex 01-21-11 02:04 PM

Looks good.

alexvpaq 01-28-11 04:46 PM

Okay today I received some other things I was glad everything fits well. But the sole is so slippy I almost fell on my butt while trying to walk with them LOL...

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC02237.jpg

And the pedals are nice :D I know they aint the 650$ ones they are just the chromo-li version but it should be good enough for me.

http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...q/DSC02236.jpg

But more important, the cat seems happy.

Nice shoes. I love the cat, too. I hope you paid < $150 for that frame. I haven't gotten to try the 105, I wonder how it compares.

Paul Y. 01-28-11 08:27 PM
