Used to be heavily addicted to Mountain Dew. Used to drink over a 12 pack of cans a day (Equivalent between everything, usually a lot more tbh). Stopped cold turkey about a year ago. Best decision of my life.

But, genetics are on my side. Almost 30 and I at 6'1 I weight about 175 lbs. Very lean. What scares me is what's going on with my arteries... I guess it's a good thing I stay active. If my metabolism comes to a screeching halt as many tell me it will, I suppose I will have to calm my eating habits but I freakin love food...

You have age on your side for now. I have lots of buddies who've been skinny their whole lives and always eaten whatever they wanted without consequence. Once they turned 40 they became what I called "skinny-fat" - skinny arms, skinny legs, little pot belly.

Coffee - black and hot. That is about it.

I've been a Vegetarian since I was ten. I've never smoked anything, drank alcohol, or used illegal/mind altering drugs. I don't think that makes me all that special, but I have done alright. I think my having been a vegetarian from an early age, gave me a desire to take better care of my body. I hope it pays off one of these days.

Crack, but I'm trying to go back to blow exclusively now that I'm living the healthy lifestyle.

Sad to say yes still smoke but getting back into cycling after 20 years my be what stops me.

Since I started cycling again in earnest the first of January I have gone from 2 full packs a day to about 5 to 8 a cigs a day and find my self thinking more and more about the ramifications of smoking. Just one before the first ride of the day could kill my performance I think to my self. At night I agonize over the effects of what I have smoked today and against tomorrow.

As I become more and more serious about the century ride this spring, I think I may make it and quit soon.
I know the cold turkey idea, but I am more of the get obsessed and make huge changes in my life to chase my obsession type personality.

You only go around once. Might as well enjoy!

Agree 100 %- Never tried them, didn't have to, I had a mother that smoked 2 packs a day. The really amazing thing about cigarettes is how well they demonstrate the power of advertising. Here you have exactly the same activity- for women shown to be sexy and feminine, for men rugged and macho.

twobadfish 02-01-11 07:44 PM

I'm eating Doritos right now.

stien 02-01-11 07:45 PM

I get pissed about people smoking anywhere near me. That **** is terrible for you, if you wanna do it then don't make me inhale it.

Guilty pleasure?

Food.

I no longer smoke, but I didn't quit because of cycling. Just because someone is addicted to smoking they can't also gain the benefit of working out through cycling?

True smoking will limit your ability to cycle to some degree. But it doesn't mean you can't do both. One does not have anything to do with the other.

Your either trolling or seriously misinformed.

I can't stand cigarettes. I used to smoke them occasionally or socially, but never went out and bought my own packs or anything. Now, I just can't stand the smell or anything.

Problem is I absolutely love a great and flavorful beer, so when I go to the bar to throw a few back with some friends I'm always surrounded by cigarette smokers. Everything smells so bad the next morning. I always have to wash all my clothes (sometimes twice) to get the cigarette smell out.

I'm also an advocate of the wacky tobaccy, and I feel it is totally harmless and most definitely enjoyable. I haven't indulged in quite awhile because of a new job that I can't afford to lose, but if I could I'd do it all the time.:) The delicious flavor and aroma are indicators of its heavenly qualities. Cigarettes smell like certain death. That said, my grandpa is 87 years old and still hasn't had a single health problem his entire life, other than losing his teeth at some point in his life. He smoked 2 packs a day since he was practically a kid back in Greece, and didn't stop until he got into a car accident at around 70 years old. A lot of it has to do with genes.

*edit* Forgot to mention that I love a good cup of coffee, but I don't drink it too often because it stimulates the bowels..lol.

There are so many guilty pleasures in this life. You just have to pick and choose the less harmful ones and use them in moderation. Too much of anything is a bad thing, except maybe bike riding and sex.

How so? I tend to agree with Bosoxmrkn, I was cycling and smoking for years. I noticed a pretty big improvement in overall health from when I was just doing the smoking part.

fishymamba 02-01-11 08:15 PM

Can't drink or smoke(and hopefully I never will)
But I do get crazy when I eat Ben and Jerry ice cream. I can eat two pints maximum at a time.(About 4000 calories)

Quitting drinking diet coke is something I have done, but end up replacing it with food. Causing me to gain weight. So, I drink diet coke.
