Cigarettes?

Am I the only one?

Beer...?

Guilty pleasures...

crhilton 02-01-11 09:52 AM

Beer, wine, sweets.

No cigarettes. I do enjoy cigars, but I inhale as little as possible and my throat can only handle an occasional cigar.

rkwaki 02-01-11 09:55 AM

No more alcohol, but yes on cigs. Quitting drinking was the single best thing I did for my health. Yes, quitting the cigs will help too, but he drinking was what was killing me. I have been to no less than 10 funerals in 15 years, all died from drinking-related illness. Not one was from cancer or a smoking-related illness. Smoking may have contributed, but not the main cause.

How is it that Lemmy is still alive? Two bottles of Jack Daniels' and two packs a day.

To quote a line from the new film about him:

'If they drop a nuclear bomb on this planet, Lemmy and cockroaches are all that’s gonna survive.'

And I just heard that they cause cancer.

Seems that if you're a smoker and a cyclist, you should probably quit one of them. They just don't go together.

Your risk balancing skills need some work. Smoking kills 5 times the number of people that alcohol abuse does.
Moreover, there's pretty solid evidence that moderate use of alcohol can improve your health and longevity.

By contrast, there is no health benefit to any amount of smoking, and even "moderate" smoking increases your chance of an early death.

Not to mention that smoking will make you slower on the bike.

I drink on the weekends. Drink to get drunk. When school semester is over i smoke weed on the daily. Once school is back in session theres a break from smoking and drinking. Its only on the weekends or after really long rides.

If you re-read, quitting drinking is what helped me, and it was not moderate drinking. I worked in a bar. I quit smoking for a year in 2004 and it didn't do squat for me (not a heavy smoker). I am not saying that smoking is healthy by any means, but given the choice to quit one or the other, my choice is clear. Someday I will quit smoking too, just not today. And yes, I'll be that guy who says it - I had two great grandfathers who lived into their 90's smoking coffin nails. I have genetics on my side and I understand the risks.

Cigarettes- I quit just over 2 months ago.

Drinking- Yes, but not nearly as much as I used to.

Ice cream is my biggest guilty pleasure, I can eat a whole gallon in one sitting and still want more, I'm glad I'm still at the point in my life that I don't gain weight.

dnuzzomueller 02-01-11 10:27 AM

Guilty Pleasures: Pizza, Granola, Ice Cream/ too much of all of the above

Smoking in any amount increases health risks. So the idea that "quitting smoking didn't do squat" for you is utterly and completely fallacious. You might have been a drunk or on your way there, but that doesn't mean smoking isn't bad for you also.

I'm too old to smoke or drink. All that's left is massive amounts of coffee.

And Mountain Dew, Snickers and Skittles when I'm riding.

Makel 02-01-11 10:30 AM

can't stand the smell of it now, especially the smell of cheap cigs, blech!

Please read my words - I basically agree with you. If you wanna get all C. Everett Koop on me, go right ahead. As the crux of this thread reads, it is a guilty pleasure.
