Extremely low weight frame options
What are the options? Cost and weight too pls.
Parlee Z5 SL Cervelo R5ca and R5 Pinarello Dogma Wilier? Scott Addict R1 Guru Photon For the frames that have integrated seat posts, can you help me understand what the weight differences are on an apples to apples basis? |
|
Regarding your picture, this information is not easily googled. The manufacturers purposely avoid posting weights. Also, no good information on how to compare frames with integrated seatposts.

B) http://tinyurl.com/6l4cfvf ------> First link: http://www.trisports.com/scott-addict-r1.html Scott Addict R1 Road Frame Set Frame weight: 790 grams Regular price: $2,999.95 Took me all of .26 seconds. (works for me) :D |
Having purchased a new frameset this summer, I was doing quite a bit of research on the guru photon, parlee z5, cervelos and various addict models.
I've seen a few reports of guru photons developing cracks. Only a few, but how many of them are out there. Also, depending on the frame size, once you get above a 54cm, they're not "superlight" anymore. I've only read of 1 problem with a parlee z5, I was saving for one until I found a scott addict sl frameset for less than 1500. That was, without a doubt, as good a price to weight ratio as I was going to get- the frame came in at 810g (54cm) and the fork was under 300g once I cut the steerer tube. Since I previously had a scott cr1 sl, it was a no brainer. I test rode the cervelo r3sl and was unimpressed, especially for the price. But, this is what worked for me. The other frame mentioned never came to mind- I'm too much of a weight weenie and they were too heavy (and too expensive)-- besides, the ride of the addict is incredible- so much better than the cr1 sl. |
Are you planning to use the bike for only climbing?

Why you would include a Pinarello of any sort or a Wilier is completely beyond me. Super six is significantly lighter. Other custom options like a Crumpton SL are great too
|
You have a target weight in mind for the finished bike?
|
Might want to include the Storck Fascenario 0.7 or 0.6 on your list.
|
scott addict end of search!

Low frame weight and Dogma do not go hand in hand.
|
Is weight the only thing you're considering? Because ride quality is "kinda" important too.

Looks like the Guru gets some bad reviews as far as quality goes.
Complaints of breakage and refusal of Guru to honor warranty. |

Indeed. Well it should be comfortable enough to get you to the coffee shop.

Most coffee shops don't meet my standards - I make my own espresso at home. The bike only needs to hang on the wall in my loft/converted warehouse space. Frame color is important - must complement the Basquiat on the wall perpendicular.

Crumpton SL - I think around $4K, weight will vary on what you tell Nick you want
Ibis Silk SL (in clear coat, i.e. not the red or green) - $1700, come in around 850-8750 grams for the 55cm |

I have recently acquired a new contact and local Bike builder with his own stuff. You can't buy from him directly (I don't believe), you can certainly get in touch with him and he can tell you more. Totally great guy to deal with. (edit: His name is Tom)
http://superiorlitebikes.com/slproframe.php This is the the one I am eying up for an eventual purchase. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=188938 |

I'm thinking of the CR1 as my next frame. What do you like better about the addict?

Just butting in, but the new CR1 is a more relaxed frame than the Addict. The old CR1 is sort of the predecessor of the Addict - it used to be the top of the line race frame.
My '09 Addict is almost as good a ride, and appears to be a lot sturdier carbon build. The Parlee is even more impressive, in terms of build quality, but doesn't have the vibrancy of the Addict frame. I've ridden a Storck Absolutist 0.9 and I thought that the ride quality was terrible - like a block of wood. If I was buying a light frame today, I'd like to try a C-Dale Super Six. From discussions with others, the ride quality is close to that of the Addict, and the carbon build quality appears to be much better. But I'd be tempted by an Addict R15, especially the 2010 white/gray model. Right now, I'm interested in a cyclocross type frame, probably titanium, and I'd prefer to have disc brakes. But that's a different story. |
