Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Athlete Forward: A new training software

Just thought i'd let you guys know that there's a great new training software out on the market. It was developed by my coach Andres Angulo and I have been testing and using it for the past few months. It's relatively knew but already has a bunch of great features, yet still very easy to use.

Here's a recent write up on it in pezcycling.

https://www.pezcyclingnews.com/?pg=fu...24&status=True

The site itself.

https://www.athleteforward.com/

Also i know they're throwing in a free trip to a training camp in California- TOC style if you sign up for a free trial account.

Give it a look if you're into keeping track of your training.

Thanks.

Given that Garmin connect pretty much is merely a few pretty pictures added to the averages already in the TCX (XML) files generated by their devices, that's not very hard to do.

The real question is, "Does it beat Golden Cheetah?"

Doesn't look like it.

Golden Cheetah already implements Skiba's power based system which produces very similar numbers to Coggan's and Daniels' which seems to do a better job addressing variable rides (like the hypothetical long downhill). You get TRIMP too if you're still in the heart rate era.

To quote the pez review https://www.pezcyclingnews.com/?pg=fu...24&status=True

One of the first things that jumped out at me when talking to Andres and looking over the site was their use of a TrIMP score. Classicists will instantly recognize the term TrIMP as part of the pioneering work of Eric Bannister in the 70's and 80s. His efforts to track and measure Training Impulse (TrIMP) scores are the foundation of nearly all modern iterations of intensity-based training plans.

Andres was quick to point out two things. The first is that they are actually using a modified TrIMP score, known as a Foster's Index, that scores a workout on perceived exertion times time (RPE x Time). Session-based RPE scales have been well correlated with other measures like lactate concentration and heart rate in a large volume of research, and provide the additional benefit of helping the athlete to become proficient at self-reporting the relationship between effort and intensity.
And

The second item of note was that, in keeping with their desire to offer a comprehensive experience, they hope to incorporate Dr. Andy Coggan's power based system of metrics in the near future, and look forward to the conversation.

yes it definitely beats garmin connect and no it isn't only power based. like i said it is a new software though that has been developed only in the last year or so and is being supplemented and improved constantly.

i think the best thing for you to do is just give the free trial a shot and see what you think.

How does it work with HR data only? Can you get something similar to CTL on Training Peaks?
