CAAD people... Fork Question

Hello Guys,
I was riding my Caad 9.5 with Premium + fork until last week. Unfortunately, due to a mishap, i have to get a new fork.

I have re-installed the stock "ultra" fork and omg it is HEAVY. What would you guys recommend i upgrade to? I'm having difficulty locating forks and i'm unsure if i'm limited to Cannondale forks.

Thanks.

Edge 2.0 is what's going on my CAAD9.
About $400. at <380g.
Slice fork is about 567g.
Do the math.

Alot of CAAD riders also like 3T forks tool

Why not try calling Cannondale or your local CDale dealer and ask about getting a replacement?

I have the Ritchey WCS UD Carbon fork and I have had no issues with it. It rides great and weighs right around 300g. I picked mine up at Performance Bike for really cheap but they no longer have it from what I can see. The EDGE fork would have looked better with my BBQ CAAD but oh well.

Someone put a 3T Funda Pro fork on his CAAD and it looks really good:

Unless you've got one of these in your house

Just go to the LBS and get the Premium.
BTW - you should check with LBS to see if the fork is covered under warranty.
The shop should at least give you a break on the price.

Reynolds Ouzo Pro is a solid choice. I got a new 1 on Ebay for $160 shipped. 370gms. Nice looks and performance.

That was my alternative choice. I think they look great.
But I got this 1.0 at an incredible price. I had to get it.
Plus, it was my first choice so it was a no-brainer.
And it shaves off 300g off my bike.
:)

^^
wow, that Ritchey fork is extremely good for the price:

$319 and sub-300 grams. That'd cost you $600+ elsewhere.

I need one of those.

How much does the Cannondale Premium Fork weigh? I didn't recall it being very heavy?

BayAreaUser 02-28-11 11:32 PM

I ended up finding a deal on a 3T funda Team fork. It's fairly light. Now i need to find a place I trust to have the steerer tube cut. =(

When I got it from Performance, I got it for $282 shipped. Pretty sweet fork for a pretty sweet price.

I think it's like 450g or something like that.
Not worth me changing out from a 567g Ultra for the money.
The Slice Si I believe was like 300-350g and manufactured by Look (if I recall correctly).

I've seen some CAAD9s that were gloss black with red lettering that that fork would look great on.
Congrats. :)

The Premium Plus fork you have in that photo should weigh in the 350-380 gram range.

No. Actually, I'm only 220lbs.

And Edge has no weigh limits on their forks.

I am fully aware that the Edge forks don't have limits...however, and don't get all hurt here, 220lbs is a decent weight in the cycling world.

..Also, you will be sacrificing a lot of stiffness going with the 1.0 vice the 2.0, if you were a 140lbs climber I would recommend that fork for you, but you are not. You're giving up comfort and stiffness for a few extra grams.

Having been in that same situation with the EC90SLX once on a Caad9 frame (and I weigh 165) I HATED it...it was flexy and vague in corners and didn't insire any confidence in corners or on descents.

Actually, I was intent on getting the 2.0 initially, but thought I'd try the 1.0 first.
At this price, I could afford to experiment and I've read how several riders in my weight range found it to be stiff
enough for them and a few who've tried both said that they couldn't tell a difference other than price and grams.

Worst case scenario, I mount it, try it and sell it at my cost or possibly even flip it. I can even straight-trade it for a new 2.0.
I'll try it out and see if I have the same experience that other riders in my weight range had with it (who love it).

:)
