SRAM vs Shimano cassettes
I just posted a thread about my switch from 5700 to Red/Force, but with my 5700 cassette, in 11-28. I have a 12-28 SRAM PG-1070 on the way.
Someone posted that SRAM cassettes are inferior to Shimanos.
Does anyone have any experience with both?
Which is quieter?
Which shifts better?
I'm using a SRAM 1091r chain

They're all just fine - I've used shimano 5600, 6700 and SRAM PG-1070's interchangeably on both SRAM and Shimano drivetrains. My go to cassette is the SRAM 11-26, it just works for me, and I like the 19-21-24-26 spacing.

I've used quite a few of both brand. They both work fine. The noisiest one I've used was my Sram with the missing tooth design. They scrapped that design in short order anyway, but other than a little more noise it worked fine.

If your current Shimano cassette isn't worn out, there's no reason to switch to Sram. I use Ultegra cassettes on Sram and shifting is just fine.

I've been crashed out by a now pro rider who rode sram and have had a couple of friends crash riding sram - all due to components. Says something there.

I switched my Ultegra 12-25 Cassette for a PG 1090 11-25 Cassette - both work great the SRAM is a little noisier due to the hollow design but not significantly noisier.

Could you elaborate on this? I'm really curious to know how exactly a crash can be caused specifically by a certain brand of components. Wouldn't that be like blaming Boeing for 9/11?

Personal experience Sram Red cassettes do make more noise but it's normal, I have used my Shimano cassette with Sram Red 1090R chain and it was much quieter than with Red cassette.
Both function great

I go with whichever is available in 12-27 and has the better price. I've used Ultegra and SRAM 1070 with no problems with either. I haven't looked for a while, but it appears that Shimano might've dropped the 12-27 from their offerings in favor of 11-28, so that would be a deciding factor.

I was the person who posted about Sram cassettes, and I will re-iterate. The only reason to buy a Force cassette over a Shimano one is if Sram comes in some combination you must have and Shimano does not, such as an 11-26 or 11-28.
Shimano cassettes and chains are far superior in terms of quality than any cassettes and chains Sram makes, the Red cassette being the lone exception.
As far as the rest of my drivetrain goes, I run Sram shifters and derailleurs exclusively.

to spudder or slow down like my Sora/Tiagra group did. My concern was unfounded.
I got a big grin on my face and hauled arse up the walkway I was climbing.
Then, I would purposely shift it under load to see how it would respond.
"Nuthin' but net everytime." It's no wonder DA 7800 is so well loved.

OP...both cassettes are fine. I've gone from SRAM to Shimano.
I personally prefer Shimano's smoothness of operation.
I would say to keep everything in the family...SRAM for SRAM
and Shimano for Shimano (unless one was obviously better).

I've used both, both are just fine. Have SRAM on there right now with an otherwise Shimano drivetrain and KMC chain.
As for the noise...clearly you just need to turn up your iPods. Duh.

And yet it's Shimano who had to drop the quick link from their 7900 chain because it was poorly designed (shame, it worked beautifully until you rode on it...). All manufacturers make mistakes as do all mechanics, if I rode as many miles as a pro I'd expect to have crashed due to equipment failure as well.

Thanks,
I do want a combo that Shimano does not offer, a 12-28. That drops the 11t for a 16t, everything else is the same. I'll still keep the 5700 cassette on one set of wheels.
The current setup of Force crank, RD/FD & 1091r chain is MUCH quieter than the 105 5700 crank, RD/FD & 6700 chain. Like night & day. Even with Chain-L.

One thing to consider...do you need a 18T? Because SRAM don't make one....Shimano all the new cassettes have 18t, for some reason SRAM decides to skip that one.
