Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Whats the farthest you have ever rode in one day?

And on what bike. I know this question has been asked before but I couldn't find those threads. As for me 63 miles on a very hilly road. I took my cannonade mountain bike. I'm only 14 and i just got a hybrid trek fx 7.1 bike so i'm going to try for 100.

287.3 miles (462.4 kms)

It was a 24-hour race, and I tell the story here:
https://www.machka.net/24hour/2006_UMCA24hour.htm

I rode my Marinoni Ciclo.

There are a few other 24-hour racers and RAAM competitors here. And I know of at least two Furnace Creek 508 riders.

Machka, you're supposed to save the trump card for later. Now nobody wants to post. Unless they lie . . . but who would do something like that?

Considering you're 14, that make a difference to me. As they say, endurance comes with age. Although I have ridden 110 miles over a big mountain before, the longest ride I did at age 14 was 67 miles (a metric century plus 2.5 miles each way from the campground we were staying at). At 15, I went 90 miles, but that was because my teammate disagreed with my coach's schedule for a 60-65 mile ride and didn't tell me about it.

That happens to me a lot of the time ... at least an hour, sometimes several hours.

Agreed ... doing a metric century when you're 14 is pretty good. I didn't start getting into longer distances until my late 20s.

Farthest I have ever ridden was yesterday. It was pleasant, not too warm or cool. So I decided to just see how far I could go. I started riding at 6:30 AM and got back at 7:30 PM. Total distance was 401.7 miles. Only went through 5 water bottles the whole day. Stopped to eat once, and never got too hungry after that. I'm not tired today either -- planning to go ride at least 100 miles today.

Of course, you'd be a total fool not to believe that I did this yesterday.

Good job. And if you can do 63, you can do 100.

I did my first 100mi ride when I was 11 yo. It was the first day of a 4-day 434 mi ride. My longest ride to date was 112mi. I expect to break that this year.

if people are allowed to lie about average speeds and wattage, why not distances?

at age 14 i had no idea people even rode those kinda distances. Heck, I didn't even know that until age 36 when I met this racer guy and I told him I could ride 10 miles in a mere 35 minutes. When I kept telling him (in case he didn't hear me the first time or thought I was refering to motorbikes), he told me he was a racer. I forgot what stats he told me, me but it sure shut me up

Longest for me: 85 miles, by accident. I was supposed to be on the 25 mile beginner ride so I never took any food/water with me and ended up on the 75 mile ride. The other 10 miles was coz I got lost and decided not to take any more shortcuts

I am 15. I rode 120 miles on one ride last month. I try to do a metric(64 miles) every week if I have time.

I've ridden three double-metrics. One wasn't planned - we just had a good pace line going.

I've done 1000 miles in a day. As for what bike, it was a blue one. Yamaha I think.

Longest ride in my teens was close to 70 miles. Longest since I started riding again was 140 miles and close to 20K' of climbing.
Try and find a local club you can ride with. Most clubs have at least one or two people that will give you all kinds of help and advice.
