Audi Bikes?
 

I'm a big Audi fan, and apparently their bikes are pretty cool too. I don't know how i feel about these, though. I do like the Winwood forks. I had the Winwood dualist on my old bike and they are bad a$$.

Renovo's been doing it for a while. Oh I just realized Renovo did these bikes. Something about Red with discs doesn't jive with me.

Would be nice if they stopped patting themselves on the back just long enough to describe any actual features of the bikes or showed pictures larger than blurry thumbnails.

I keep picturing myself on this bike hitting a patch of asphalt gravel and crying over the pock marks they left in the wood on the underside downtube.

Thought those looked like Renovo's. So, essentially what you are getting is a $2-3K Renovo with Audi badges for $7500. Beautiful bikes. I would love to have a Renovo. That Euro-markup is rediculous.

You would also think that if they were actually interested in selling $7000 bikes that the website would be a little more user friendly.

I was wondering about the disc brakes... then i realized that if they are indeed solid hard wood frames then the bikes need the disc brakes to stop the heavy weight.

Hope their bikes are better than their cars VAG sucks

i just checked out the renovo website for the first time and it and audi seem like the perfect couple: they're very self-indulgent. still, the bikes are nice.

I've never seen one in person, but their website says their bikes come in around 17-18lbs. Yes, they are solid wood (meaning no particle board or filler)...but they aren't solid. They are actually hollow. Check out the Renovo site. They explain the process. Most of their bikes have caliper brakes. Don't know why Audi went with disc brakes. Maybe they think it looks more "technological" or something.

I am a BMW fan and they make bikes too. Mercedes also makes bikes.

The BMW bikes look more like space ships than bikes.

EDIT: I noticed that many of these concept looking bikes say Specialized on them.

A Calfee Bamboo bike makes more sense. Bamboo is hollow and a frame weighs about the same as a steel frame. A Bamboo frame also cost $2600.

The tubular bamboo is fragile as hell and you need to like the Gilligan island/tiki torch look.

I've owned half a dozen or so BMW's going back to the 80's, so I guess that makes me a Bimmerphile. But I wouldn't buy a bike that says "BMW". D*****bag comes to mind. :D

I wouldn't buy the Audi versions either, nor the Ducati Corse / Ferrari (Colnagos). But that's just me.

Renovo is here in Portland and I can honestly say, they are some of the nicest bikes I have ever seen or ridden. They are lighter and stiffer than you would think...on par with a good quality steel tubeset. (the wood is hollow in the main tubes) Plus, they are sexy as hell - even better in person than in pictures. But of course, they aren't cheap...which is why I don't own one.

So I say why not just buy the original and not sub-branded to an automaker? Ferrari used Colnago and Campy for their bikes. I'd much rather get the "real" thing.

I like Audis, but those are hideous. And expensive.

Saturday, group ride, another cyclist with a very sweet Renovo. I talked a while with him and he has ridden many years on many frames. Said his Renovo is his favorite and outperforms his Trek Madone. Those Audis look very similar to Renovo frames. Pretty cool. Still, I'll stick to metal frames.

Next someone will make Ferrari and Lamborghini laptops. Wait, they already do. Oh the irony.

The least-vomit-inspiring car-related bike is Colnago when they associate themselves with Ferrari. Specialized/Venge/McLaren, give me a friggin break.

You don't know what you are talking about. Calfee Bamboo bikes are used for mountain biking and cycle cross. I rode a bamboo mountain bike at the Calfee factory over speed bumps and pot holes. The frame is extremely strong.

I agree with you. I wouldn't buy any of them either. I perfer bikes from manufacturers that have a reputation of building quality bikes that people actually buy. Plus, I there isn't a bike made that I would pay $7,000 for. It just isn't in my budget.

So when you're on a group ride and the guy riding one of these doesn't want to pull... just pull out the Bic and give him the sinister look. :)

Take a $2000 Renovo, slap an Audi sticker on the down tube and charge $7000. Awesome. I thought only Harley Davidson got away with scams like that.

What takes the cake is the bike stand their listing at $270! Pass the word to all the steel and Ti custom builders that their scrap tubes are worth their weight in gold.

The cheapest Renovo FRAME is $1500 and that is bare bones. Most are $3k and up. I can understand you not liking them but know your **** before you make accusations.
