I can't be bothered to dig for it, but there was a study in to the heat dispersion of black and white, the conclusion - black dispersed more heat than it absorbed and the net effect is that it's actually cooler than white. Two caveats for these results - there must be at least a slight breeze (ie, not stagnant air - not a problem on a bike) and it should allow air to circulate (ie, shouldn't fit like a second skin, so super tight race fit wouldn't be ideal - frankly, I don't know if they took tight fitting but "vented" (like some icebreaker clothing) in to account).

I have one of these in black. I'm not a flashy guy and like the simplicity of plain black. Plus it hides the love handles.

Same here. I never understood why looks mattered on a bike.
If you're riding, you're a "flash" anyway as you roll by.
I like simplicity as well. Generally, I buy the best I can afford.
I've been looking for a set of everyday jerseys myself.
Plain, simple, low maintenance and if I happen to get any chain oil on them,
I'm not going to stress out that I just messed up a $200. shirt.

I think $40. buys a nice no-frills good quality jersey that won't fall apart after the first wash.

Did a group ride a couple of weeks ago with a new group. I was wearing the above black shirt, black long pants, black helmet, black and red shoes. This older dude I do not know comes up and starts bugging me about wearing so much black. He's wearing the typical wanna-be pro colorful kit and looking at me like I'm some clown. Some people like simple. I think some cyclists have a hard time understanding this.

yea. i don't dress "flashy" off the bike, i don't feel like i should have to apologize for not wanting to look flashy on the bike.

there was that other thread where i was mocked for 3 pages for asking if i picked the right size jersey.
now, even though i wasn't asking about fashion in that thread, i don't think there's anything wrong with it. the desire to not look like a jackass does not make you any less of a cyclist, and anyone who pretends that they don't care is straight-up lying.

Colorful kit on the bike does serve a purpose; it makes you more visible, especially at night. You dress in black, you make yourself less visible, and some people (including myself) do not think much of the idea of making yourself less visible because you equate colorful kit with being a jackass.

First, I said I wasn't interested in the visibility issue.

Second, I didn't say colors make you look like a jackass. I wear colored jerseys. I was referring to kit that is designed with patterns that make people look like jackasses.

One man's jackass is another man's genius. Since it's all subjective there's little use in being judgmental. There's all sorts of clothes for different tastes, I appreciate the variety.
