Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Trek 1.2 What would you pay?

I have a 2010 Trek 1.2 that I purchased last April that I'm looking to put up for sale on craigslist. It's a 52cm frame, and I'v upgraded the shifters to Tiagra, the crankset to a compact double, and I'v switched out the saddle to a Bontrager inForm R. The one thing that I don't want to sell is the pedals, but I'll include the stock platforms.

My question for you guys is what do you think a reasonable price would be for me to ask?

Here are some photos

~$500 maybe? It's almost a stock 1.5 now, which would go for about $1100 new. I would expect to get 50% of original value typically, but since it's technically a 1.2 take a little more off, so $500 seems fair to me. You might get a little more if it is in pristine condition though (mainly in the wear parts... brake pads, chain & cassette especially)

I just purchased a 2009 1.2 new for $600, so i would agree that sounds fair. I bought mine new for only a little more, but if the wear parts are in good condition the upgraded parts help bump up the value

FWIW, I just sold my 2010 Trek 2.1 ($1350 or so new) for $1125+$75 shipping. Post great pictures and a detailed description so people feel comfortable buying what you're selling, and you earn more money.

you can probably buff some of those scratches off of the downtube with car wax if you are feeling industrious. you could probably ask for a little more dough with shinier paint too! they sell "cleaner" type waxes which help take out bigger swirl marks and scuffs and then finish waxes which fill in the imperfections in the paint. with tiagra shifters, that compact doulbe and those pedals you could probably get 600 bucks for that bike around here. dunno about illinois though.
