And there you have it... it's the image appeal. Trek makes fine bikes but Bianchi is somehow more "exotique". That reminds me of an episode of the Simpsons in which Homer complains to Moe that he's tired of Duff beer and wants to try something different with more class. So Moe grabs a can of Duff and under the bar, uses a black marker to change the "u" to a "ü", hands it back to Homer and says, "Here... try this... 'Doophs'... it's imported". There's nothing inherently wrong with buying a bike because of its image, mystique or perceived sex-appeal but it's good to realise that that's the attribute that's capturing your attention. BTW, Bianchis are everwhere around here too... not quite as popular as Treks but certainly not a once-in-a-blue-moon sighting either. There's a chain of Italian restaurants here that have Bianchi posters adorning the walls and random Bianchi bicycles hanging from the cycling.

Yep. Great restaurant for a chain. I love the Bianchis hanging from the ceiling. The one in Issaquah has more of a cycling theme than the one in Redmond which is somewhat amusing because curiously enough, Redmond self-proclaims to be the cycling capitol of the Pacific Northwest.

I don't have one but my wife rides a Campione, does that count?
Operator my TREK(s) are 20 and 21 years old, not quite newb stuff.
I do lust after an 80's Speciallisima fwiw

Count me in too.

gremelm 04-06-05 02:59 PM

I'll weigh in too, with my 04 XL Carbon. Love it. I think Bianchis are a little more appealing in my eyes than Treks. Celeste on carbon, you can't beat that color combo. :o

clausen 04-07-05 01:23 AM

When is this starting?

mrballistic 04-07-05 01:53 AM

Living in Seattle, never heard that one. Of course there is the Redmond Cycling Club, but they're mostly a Seattle bunch.

I was a waiter at the one on Lake Union right out of college in 1990 - bikes hanging from the ceiling, etc. FUN place to work . . .

Casual visitors might suppose Redmond came by this nickname in 1990, when the bicycle races at the Goodwill Games were staged in the velodrome at Marymoor Park. Although the velodrome dates from 1974, Redmond’s claim to bicycle fame goes back much further, to 1939.

That’s when the community created Derby Days, a bicycle derby intended to raise money to buy Christmas decorations and equipment for the high school team. It soon became a summer tradition. Now the annual race is a nationally sanctioned criterium, and the race is the oldest annual bicycle derby in North America.

You’ll find more than bicycle races at today’s Derby Days celebrations. It features a grand parade, vendors and entertainment. And throughout the summer, racers meet several nights a week at the velodrome.

A monument honoring Redmond’s cycling tradition stands west of downtown. Redmond residents take their cycling seriously. Many streets have marked bicycle lanes, and a bike trail system enables riders to reach Seattle and other points.

The 1990 census showed that one percent of Redmond workers bicycled to work. City officials suspect the number has grown with the influx of young workers in Redmond’s technology companies.

true that man, I am thinking about getting that bianchi freccia celeste. That thing is sweet and the color is just so funky. One thing though that is worrying me is that I heard from people that Bianchi Carbon just sucks. I heard it is a very bad carbon and that you need to get lucky with it, and I heard that the freccia is real hard to get in the US. lol

Can you guys school me on Bianchi? I ride a steel-framed Ciocc that I want to make into a fixed-gear ride. That leaves me without a geared roadbike. I check eBay quite often, looking for a nice used Bianchi and the problem is that there are so many different models that I don't know which is which. Any advice?

Checking in. Anyone bought the "your bike sucks" socks from bianchi?

KevRC4130 04-23-05 08:49 AM

My new (used) Bianchi. My first road bike. Right now it has about .5% celeste on it, and that is the sticker on the fork leg :) .

I yearn to be in the Celeste Army however, and it will soon look like this:

Will I be able to join?

I'm in. My new Bianchi Giro (2002 NOS) that I just got last month already has over 300 miles on it. It's electric red, but I love it any way.

Ignore the fat boy behind the wheel. He's getting skinner every day.

Edit: I even have an Italian dog to go with the bike. A "Spin" no less.
