Pics from today

New neighbor wanted to go out for a ride. He wants to do a century but wants to do a 60 first. So on the 21st I'm riding a the Little River Bike Tour 60 with him (I was going to do the century) and then on the 28th my wife, the neighbor, and myself are doing the CRAM century.

So he wanted to ride today. He got the map for the CRAM 60 and we *sort of* followed it...except we started at our houses and biked to the start of the 60. Winds were 10-20MPH. :notamused:

Anyway, pics.

Stopped 36 miles in for Gatorade, water, a Snickers, a Coke, and a big blueberry muffin. I had coffee and a bagel for breakfast.

Yup, we're flatlanders.

He rode through here - I didn't. Not with the HEDs. It came up to his axles - which means he needs to service the axles and BB.

Since I wasn't riding through the water I had to find a route around it. Tossed the bike on the shoulder and headed for the tracks.

Passing engine.

Hoofed it for over 1/4 mile easy. Neighbor can be seen under the trees on the right.
http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._7763670_n.jpg

Final distance was 73.5 miles. We did it in 4:27:33.

Not a bad day. The neighbor definitely got his 60 in (and then some) so he's happy and feels much more confident in doing a century.

Wow...that's flat. Beautiful sky.

He's happy he has an ordinary bike that he can just ride and not walk with for half a mile :)

 :o "Um...yeah. I'm not going through that. I'll find a way around and see you on the other side."

Scared to get your feet wet?

FLvector 05-06-11 04:40 PM

Nice pics. Thanks for sharing. We need more of this rather than all the foo in the 41.

You know, it was about the time I got to the tracks that I thought to myself "You do realize you could have taken your shoes and socks off, right?" :notamused:

Oh well. Neighbor got some rest.

gusmanchu 05-06-11 06:36 PM

I gather you people have too much water out west.

Wow --------- flat. Flat is scarce around here. Except when you flat on a ride or just feel flat before a ride. Lp

Years ago, one of our members was stalked by a mystery cyclist. He managed to get a few blurry shots of him but could never catch him. When I saw this pic, I thought that at last he'll learn the identity of his longtime stalker.

FLvector 05-06-11 07:08 PM

98TJ - if you bring your bike down to Tampa, send me a pm and we'll get you out.

The tour de nash is the weekend of the 21st. The CRAM is the 28th. You can still do both.

Also on the 21st is the Little River Cycling Club's century/60/30/family ride. I'm surprised they scheduled it for the same date as the tour de nash.

...and from today's solo ride. :)

Wanted to go out for some easy spinning and ride new areas. Ended up doing 52.25 in 3:10. And, of course, it was windy. Constant 15 or so. And following with the law of wind to a cyclist, no matter which way you turned it was a headwind. :notamused:

Coy's BBQ in Elkton, KY. I was looking forward to a pulled pork sandwich but ended up with a polish sausage.

Other than a pack of persistent dogs, it was a good ride. Started off overcast and somewhat cool then the sun came out and heated things up quite a bit.

Doing the CRAM century, but not really "prepping" for it. Just riding.

My wife will be doing the CRAM century as well. It will be her first century and she hasn't had a chance to ride. Should be interesting.

There are both in the area. I have pics around here somewhere from one of my rides. Saw an Amish kid on a scooter by the road. His name was Elmer. We talked for a bit and I asked him about the scooter. He said he brother, Amos, sells them in the shop.

Went to the shop, checked out the scooters $250(!) and talked to Amos. While we talked I looked up and saw a three bladed ceiling fan...that was running on compressed air. Talked to Amos about it and he said it runs at 40psi and he been in use for years with no issues.

I'll see if I can dig up the pics.
