Colnago EPS and Look 595 sizing
Hey all,
I'm currently debating between the two framesets, but sizing is a factor. The EPS I'm looking at is a 58cm traditional geometry so effective TT of 56.5cm. The Look is a size "Large" and I can't find any conclusive info about its geometry. A 595 geometry chart I came across on eBay showed a center to center TT length of 56cm, but it did not specify whether it was actual or virtual TT length.
Right now I ride a 2011 Cervelo R3 and it has a 56.4cm effective/virtual TT length. I am 5' 11" and have normal proportions. It feels like the right length for me with the factory 100mm stem, but sometimes I think I could get away with a smaller frame and a longer stem. With my R3 I get a little toe overlap (I wear a size 11.5/45 shoe), but it's nothing major and this is expected.
The Colnago 58cm looks like it has a longer chain stay and a longer front-center, so I imagine I will have less toe overlap. I imagine this will feel a lot like my R3 in terms of reach, but it will probably be a little more stable at speed. The trade-off will be less nimble handling, but I'm okay with that.
The Look 595 in "Large" has a shorter head tube than both my R3 and the Colnago. This makes me slightly nervous, because I don't want to run any headset spacers regardless of what I decide to go with. I don't know if this is something I should be concerned with, however, because I am moderately flexible and feel that with the proper seat position and stem choice I can get it comfortable either way. Otherwise, the Look 595 is very tempting. I like the integrated "E-post" seatpost concept, the independent headset compression and stem clamping, the internal cable routing, etc.
Then there's the warranty. The Colnago is barely used, but no warranty. The 595 is new from an eBay seller and claims to come with a warranty, but I don't know how Look handles warranty claims for bikes purchased off eBay. Both framesets are around $2900.
I'm stuck on what to do and would like to make a decision before one or both of these bikes disappear. What would you do given my current situation?
Thanks in advance.
