Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dude, going from 53-11 to 56-11 is a bigger jump than you think! I went from 53-11 to 55-11 and lost some top speed!

hi 53-11. So a 60 up front would be too much? have you tried a 55 instead?

With a 52-11 you get about 30mph at 80rpm and 38mph at 100rpm. You should be able to sustain 90 to 100rpm for extended periods. If not you need to work on strength and technique not look for higher gears.

I assume you have an agent. We'll be looking forward to seeing you in the breakaways in next year's Tour de France.

I can't comment on your specific question, but I think in cases like this you should probably create a new thread.

Although I did enjoy reading posts back from 53atw's glory days.

Dredge of the century. Nearly a two-year-old thread.
