Does it matter?
I have a Bell Slant only because there are idiots out there with moving weapons they ride in.
Looks good, but between mountain and road, your head is a head, and pavement is hard. I find that mountain bike helmets have more side protection, and road has more forehead to nape protection.
I see no problem in using any helmet for any means, have you seen what people used for helmets 50 years ago?
Always wear your helmet if your not going more then a 1/4 mile from home IMO

If it fits your head comfortably, then you'll be just fine. The more expensive helmets are just lighter and have more ventilation. All the helmets are required to meet the same safety standards. Just find something you like that fits and don't worry about it. I wear a Bell Sweep for road and cyclocross riding. Fit's like a glove.

Road helmets just don't have the visor. I'm guessing that it gets in the way of your view when your in the drops or has something to do with aerodynamics. If it's not in the way, don't worry about it. Most mtb helmets have a removable visor.

A lot of road bikes come with vizors. At least Bell and Giro do for the most part.

OP: The important thing is that it fits you and you can see where you're going (the visor can get in the way for people riding in bent over aero positions).

Thanks guys! I got it because it fitted well and also partly of the reasonable price. I would have definitely preferred the Helium but just didn't want to spend mega bucks.
How do you guys tell the difference between a proper dedicated road helmet and a MTB helmet? I couldn't myself till I search on the net that the Vandal is a MTB helmet, felt extremely stupid for a moment till I read the above comments.

So how do you like that Lazar Vandal helmet? I was also looking at it and it sure seems comfortable in the store and it is at the top of my spending limit.

Always wear your helmet if your going to be on pavement or going more than 10 MPH.
I know, we never had them as kids and did well,,,, but we also were not making average speeds of 40 Mph+ on our Schwinn Stingrays.
