Which scotchbrite pad for a titanium frame?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which scotchbrite pad for a titanium frame?

Have a Lynskey Helix and was wondering which scotchbrite pad they use on their handbrushed finish?

Lynskey uses the red scotch Brite pad which can be bought at any automotive supply store.

If you watch this video at around 1:45 in it looks like the guy is using a gray pad of some type.

The other videos from Lynskey show a red pad that looks gray from scrubbing the Titanium. I verified with the Lynskey staff and they said to use the Red Scotch Brite.

I used Red scotch brite on my Lynskey. This used to be the Industrial Mill finish.

how many hours of work is this? The next winter will probably be as bad as the last one. I'll need something to do.

I had the Industrial Mill finish, took me about an hours to get it to the hand brushed finish.

That looks great.
Did you rub in one specific direction for top tube, downtube, seattube, chainstays?

Also, what did you use to remove decals?

Yes, rub in one direction only around the tube! Its like polishing a shoe. When I ordered my frame, I requested that the decals be included but not applied. If you do remove your decals, you can buy the complete decal kit for $40 from Lynskey.

Thanks, Already ordered new decals. Now, I'm not sure if I want to brush it out again or go for full polish.

When I ordered my Cooper and had the same question, Lynskey told me they use the 7440 scotch brite pads, which are actually tan.

https://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Brite-0.../dp/B000LDC4TG

I can't comment on how well they worked, because although I bought a couple of pads, I didn't end up using them. I was happy with the industrial mill finish, and eager to get it built up immediately. Someday I'll probably go back and try to give it the hand brushed. Sounds like a good winter project.

Just curious, where'd you get that "Pedal Power" gas price sticker?

When I stripped my frame, I went over it with the regular old green scotchbrite pad you get at the grocery store as the last step. Ended up with a nice brushed matte finish.

Heres a different one on my Tarmac, also free from my Local Specialized Concept Store.

So which one is it? The Maroon/Red Pad or the Tan Pad? If they told the two of you two different things, maybe they use different pads sometimes.

i like the talisker as well, but the smoke isn't the point of either, its the underlying flavors that explode and the rich velvety mouthfeel of the laph that is just awe-inspiring... especially when you try the 18... :drools:
