Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Most comfortable hoods?

I know everyone is different, but I am curious to see which hoods you find the most comfortable.

I need to buy a new group and am going to go to some shops hoping I find a bike in my size with SRAM, but until then, I would like to see which hoods are the most comfortable for you... I'd especially like to hear feedback about the newer Shimano.

Leaning towards SRAM Force and considering Ultegra (with possible DA upgrade for the levers)

Go find some DA 7800...absolute best IMO. I can't see why ppl like SRAM, there's nothing to really hold onto...

When I got my touring bike a couple of months ago with its cheap brake levers I realized I had been taking my Ultegra SL shifters for granted all this time... Can't find a shifter nearly as comfortable. I have extra large hands though.

Campy for me, and has been that way since about '96. Though I recently tried a bike outfitted with SRAM Red, and decided I could learn to enjoy those too.

There is no meaningful information to be gained by this survey. Go to a local shop and ride bikes with different groupsets and get what it most comfortable to you.

The "Shimano" category is too general as Di2 hoods are far more comfortable than their mechanical counterparts.

The "Campy" category is also too general as 11sp hoods outdo 10sp hoods by about a billion.

Asking someone to describe the feel of goupo hoods is like asking someone to describe the taste of banana cream pie. You really have to experience the hoods for yourself to know what you like.

Re-read OP. I am doing just that, however, sometimes it helps to see what others deem a successful design, as there are times when a poor design is universally acknowledged.

I've only ridden SRAM and Shimano and i prefer SRAM hoods. I don't have big hands so the SRAM hoods are better for me.

You are fortunate, you can save a ton of money on desserts by going to KFC and ordering a bucket of chicken.

absolutely true.

I have heard that campagnolo is even smaller, though I have never ridden it.

Personally I have rival and I love it. I have ridden all the Shimano groupsets from Sora to Dura ace, and all the shifters from tiagra up are pretty much the same shape. Not as good as SRAM in my opinion when actually in the hoods, but somehow it is easier to put your hands "behind" the hoods- holding the rear of the hood and the side of the handlebar.
