Should've mentioned that it did break at the quick link.
Glad you're relatively OK. |

Heh - I like my carbon bars. :) I have several aluminum bars laying around if need be though.
miwoodar - it was a KMC X10 SL chain. I've used them for many years without issue. I don't know if the quick link fractured or if it just came apart as I never did find it. |
dude exploded his quick link. now that is power!
glad you are relatively ok. later. |
That's why we wear them. Glad yours ate some of the impact, and hope you're well soon.

purchased replacement today. Looks pretty pro with my Oakleys. :D Unfortunately the rest of me - not so much. :D

I had a chain snap once on my old Tarmac, still no idea why. I was outta shape, new to road bikes, and not very strong. The chain was a couple weeks old, and I knew how to shift from years of mountain biking, and the chain came apart a little and caught in the derailleur. Didn't completely snap for whatever reason. I consider myself lucky.
In the last month, however, two guys I ride mountain with have made their chains go BOOM! Me nor my boss had seen anything like it. These two guys are big though, and both fairly new to cycling, so it wouldn't surprise me to find out they were both crosschaining massively. Scary stuff nonetheless. |
I had a rather expensive crash this month: $200 Cf bars destroyed; $70 Brooks bar tape toast; $230 Ionas helmet; $400 prescription sunglasses; repairs to a Rolex, yet to be determined.
But no medical bills fortunately. |

But no medical bills fortunately. ravenmore, I'm glad the old helmet did it's job. No one ever plans to have a crash, so it's best to be prepared. I've broken 2 ten speed chains. One was a Campy chain, on a new bike, only 10 miles in to the ride. The other was a Wippermann with about 1,200 miles. Both broke at a regular link, rather than at the connector link. |
