Ouch
Man, this has been a really rough month for me equipment wise.

that sucks man. so what happended? whats the story?
|
Was cranking kind of hard and the chain broke. Bike went sideways and I went down ass first - kinda whipped the back of my head into the tarmac.
|
Did your helmet fall off your car? That happened to me once. Don't set your helmet on your car's roof. Lesson learned the hard way.
|
Damn. Well at least you're well enough to post. How's the head?
|
very mild concussion. Muscles in the neck are a bit sore. Sure I'll feel it more manana. ;)
|
yeah ouch glad your ok man. guess its time for a new helmet and chain huh
|
Helmets are cheap. Hospitals are not. Take care and get better.
|
awwwww, just put some duck tape on it and keep wearing it, it'll be fine.
glad you're ok man. now you get to go helmet shopping. |
Ungh, mechanical failure like that sucks. I had a pedal break on me and crashed down hard on the top tube. Ended up going over because my body just stopped working for a sec. Heal up and glad you hit where you were protected.
|
how many miles were on the chain?

Glad we're not looking at an x-ray of your noggin.
|
These chain snappage stories/threads are kind of scary. Glad you're relatively OK.
|
Surprised nobody asked this already but what chain were you using and how many miles were on it?
Glad to see you are ok though. |
It is hard to tell from the picture, but that looks like a Bell helmet. You can call them up and get a super deal on a crash replacement helmet (I think $35, or if you want something different they will give you a discount on a different model).

Hi ravenmore,
Be careful out there. Any kind of drivetrain failure is scary. I try not to think of the possibilities. Otherwise I'd take up lawn bowling -- not that I have anything against lawn bowling. |
I had a chain snap back in University. I was out of the saddle on platform pedals and snap. Lost my balance and I skidded down the road on my side.
Helmet was totalled. Glasses totalled. But that was about it. My cassette walkman (dating myself I know) saved my skin. When I finally collected myself I looked down I noticed it was ground down to its original thickness from sliding on it. Try that with an ipod ... :D |
This is not the first time you've broken something in the drivetrain in recent times. I seem to remember reading that you've broken a cog on a cassette, and this is not the first chain you've snapped.
Man, you must put out some power, or you're really, really hard on your shifts. Maybe you should start looking at getting your mechanical work done by another LBS, too. Except for the recent 6700 issues with a bad batch, I'm under the impression that a chain usually only breaks where it has been joined. And maybe, just maybe, you should concentrate on smoothing out your shifts. |
Uffa - waaaaay sore this morning lol.
Chain was KNC X10 SL. I don't want to blame the chain - I've used those chains for a bazillion miles without issue. Everything can break. I tore a cassette cog in half on a Campy cassette once(which is what Rowan is referring to). The mechanic was like WTH? If anything is mechanically reliable it is a Campy cassette - just one of those things. Now where's the ibuprofen... |
btw I'm pondering changing my carbon handlebars. Looks like they took a pretty good whack on the left side it looks like (bar tape is torn). Need to unwrap it and take a look.

Did it break at the Quicklink, or on a regular link?

Should've mentioned that it did break at the quick link.
