Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A Roadster is Born: and its first ride was by the water!

I've just finished my roadster conversion of a 1980's Ross Aristocrat. (No components were harmed or lost during the reconfiguration of this bicycle. ) Now it fits me perfectly, and I can ride it without back pain. And it looks pretty darned nice, too...

Thanks DQ. My Masi rides very compliant with the wood wheels & 27mm sewups. Rides well with the aluminum wheels (& 27mm clinchers) too.
I like vintages bicycles so very much. But I also like modern braking and shifting. So my next set of bikes will be much like this Masi. Steel, old school-ish wheels & modern drive train.
My kid and I are each building a modern retro bike. Should be some good eye candy & easy riders.
Stay tuned.

OH! I thought you were joking about the wood wheels... but closer examination of the first shot reveals what looks like actual organic free-range artisanal wood... From TREES! Who knew?

Most rides in Minnesota (Land of 10,000 Lakes) feature water at some point. Sunday I rode the Midtown Greenway through Minneapolis to the Chain of Lakes: Lake of the Isles, Calhoun, and Harriet. Here is my recently finished 1982 Ross Aristocrat Roadster Conversion at Lake Calhoun, MN

... on a bridge over Minnehaha Creek, MN

... under a bridge over Minnehaha Creek, MN

It was a wonderful ride on a beautiful day - who would believe this is Minnesota in mid-November?

Here's a shot of my new 2017 TREK Dual Sport 3's frame, built with components from my 2015 TREK DS 8.5, and the Yellow Sea, in Yantai, China (where the bike was repaired). The frame, seatpost, and seat are warranty replacements for a cracked frame on the 2015 DS 8.5 (bought in the U.S.). The rest of the components were brought over from that bike.

Time without bike... 10 days

Cost of teardown, shipping to TREK, and rebuild (including new cables)... Zero Dollars (and Zero RMB)

Customer satisfaction with TREK... PRICELESS
