Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This

The few times I've been on a sidewalk with my road bike, I unclip 1 foot, and push along at a walking pace. I think I had to do it due to construction blocking the road or something.

I weigh about 180 lbs, and I hop off curbs at speed with mine all the time (usually going from MUP to road). I also bunny hop potholes, and occasionally need to traverse grass or gravel -- all with 23mm tires and 24/20 spoke rims.

Although, I do make an extra effort to land lightly after hopping -- more so than when I'm riding my mountain bike or cx bike.

Just get out and ride it. If you break it, it will most likely NOT be because of something you did...unless you insist on riding sidwalks, in which case, it will be because you chose to ride on sidewalks. Are you starting to get the idea that sidwalk riding is a bad idea? They call them sideWALKS for a reason.

True. I regularly take off road excursions during road rides. In fact, I live on a dirt road, so pretty much every ride begins and ends with one.
