Did I spend too much?
Hi y'all,
I am completely new to biking and this community in general, I wanted to train for a 50 mile charity bike ride, and I went out and purchased a specialized secteur sport compact '11 model for about 900 with taxes, I love the bike, but now I am wondering did I spend too much? And I did want a new bike.
Thanks

Sounds like a decent deal. And if you love the bike and use it a lot then the price per hour (or per mile) will quickly come down to a pretty insignificant amount. OTOH, a bike purchased at a super discount price that then sits unused in the garage ends up being a waste of money.

Research after the fact is not very smart.
Yes you paid too much and you got screwed.
Now what?
But seriously, that's about average for that bike.

na, good bike, if you like/love it then you didn't spend to much... don't worry about such trivial things, if you enjoy it, you are happy with it, you didn't over-pay...

Welcome to BF.
I think you got it backwards though. You bought it, then asking if it's too much?
But it sounds like a pretty decent deal.

I agree with the others, if you love the bike and you enjoy riding it then you definately did not overpay for it. I am still new to the sport but I love to ride my bike. Surprisingly I am already looking for upgrades.

Ok thanks guys! Not so much buyers remorse, but I just discovered this wonderful forum and realized how little I did research before buying it, but you are right, I do love the bike and it makes me really excited to get into riding!

Also, don't worry too much about training for the ride. I did 200mi (over two days) with only three training rides of 30/40/50km respectively.

Looks like a pretty good deal for the money. Even if you only did the charity ride, your generosity would be... 50 mile ride / 900 bucks = 18 bucks a mile. 9 donors at $2 an hour. But you will ride it, love it, loose weight, get chicks, find nirvana and then come to BF and read about upgrades.. spend more money, loose more weight etc.... All because your a nice guy trying to help people through a charity ride

Unless I see a picture of the alleged new bike, I'll consider your original post lies and innuendo.

Don't feel bad - LBSs don't make a lot of money off bike sales compared to the accessories anyway.
To put it in perspective, I have a female friend who's not even a serious cyclist, and she bought an LBS Cannondale Synapse with 105 components for $3,000+.
It lists at $2149 on the Cannondale web site, which means that LBSs will sell it for about 15-20% under that. (Of course the manufacturer will have the highest price on their website so they wont 'screw' their distributors.) Paying $1k over is a raw deal.

As said in a previous post. If you ride it often, you found a great deal. If you let the bike sit idle in your garage, you paid way to much. Just ride, don't analyze after the fact
