Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Noob in road

OK be gentle with me I will be buying my first road bike and basically narrowed it down to 2 bikes. i need your honest opinion on which one will serve me best. saw a Cannondale Caad8 8 that's on closeout for $699 and LBS also has a Caad8 6 triple for $799. My original intention is for fitness/leisure cruise, who knows i may love it and prolly upgrade in the future for more hardcore road cycling. my budget is around $700 and if I get the Caad8 6 triple. I will be pushing it. But if it saves me money in the long run, I guess it's worth it???

I think only you can answer that based on your budget and your intentions with the bike. I know I spent more than I originally planned on my first road bike but I also ended up spending more than I planned on gear and accessories. Helmet, jerseys, shorts, shoes, socks, tools, vests, tights, lights, sunglasses, gloves, arm warmers..... you get the idea. Not all at once, but it added up over time. So just be sure to allow for that too. One thing I am happy about is that I haven't felt the need to upgrade my bike.
