I'm a huge fan of Phil Wood Biolube:

The one I use the most is grime. But sometimes, I like prolink for a change of pace.

Wd- 40 to clean and lubricate. 2-3 times per week depending on conditions. My Campy 10 chain is now on its seventh year with this regime and remains quiet and clean. Nay sayers go ahead and nay but it works.

Currently using the dupont Teflon spray from Lowes. I also liked purple extreme but haven't found any in a while.

May try some of the Rock & Roll Gold.

I try to avoid Teflon as I'm not a huge fan of cancer.

Yeah, took awhile but I finally learned I didn't have to ingest it, just put it on the chain.

ILUVUK 07-02-11 12:37 PM

prolink in dry conditions and pedro's synlube in wet conditions.

glrnns280 07-02-11 02:53 PM

Pro Link,I going to try chainsaw oil. Any one know where to get a bottle with the needle on the end of it?

billyymc 07-02-11 03:18 PM

Super Loob of course.

pdxtex 07-02-11 03:22 PM

ive been using boeshield for most of the spring at its been so far so good. seems to attract less grime then triflow or other wet petrol based lubricants. its a little spendy though.

I have found that Rock n Roll Gold works for me the best.... once a week or after a wet ride, simply squirt on and wipe off. I keep a clean looking cluster/chain and it takes 2 minutes. Every so often I give chain a good clean, but this would be every six months. This is also how I look after my mountain bike chain, with comments about how clean things all look!

deacon mark 07-02-11 05:38 PM

I clean it with mineral spirits then use the ACE Hardware light oil that cost about $1.99 for stuff that last a year. I get about 3-4000 miles on my chains so why spend for expensive stuff?

ls01 07-02-11 05:45 PM

rock and roll, any of them.

crazy canuck's 07-02-11 05:54 PM

extreme purple and/or rock'n roll gold ...

JustinHorne 07-02-11 06:15 PM

White lightning.

Vicelord 07-02-11 06:18 PM

I only use Purple Extreme. Used to use White Lightning and then I saw the light and switched.

I may try a Pro Link product when my Purple runs out.

What made you switch?

I've got a mostly full bottle of WL left, but I'm curious.

Boeshield has been around for quite a long time and I have been tempted in the past. I've just ordered two 4oz bottles to try it. I'd like to keep my chains and cogsets a little cleaner, although the wear rate on them hasn't been bad with just the plain old motor oil I have been using for the past six years or so.

I have used White Lightning on the hire bikes (MTBs) I used to have, but the transmissions always were quite noisy and it tended to wash out in wet weather despite all the claims. I also looked closely at the dynamics of chain wear and decided that a thin oil had a better chance of getting between the roller and pins and staying there than a wax dissolved in a thinner.

I didn't like the way the white lightning attracted dirt. Where you live it probably is no issue but Phoenix is very, very, dusty. I find the Purple Extreme has to be reapplied more than they advertise, but it collects far less dust and seems to push a lot of grime away.

Hmm, interesting, thanks.

Actually, you might be surprised. While I doubt our roads are anywhere as sandy or dusty as I imagine Pheonix to be, they aren't super clean, and my chain still stays perpetually black and grimy. That's actually why I originally switched to WL. I am still a pretty big fan of it, as it's orders of magnitude better than what I've used before (Not so oily, etc.) but I'm not married to it. Might have to pick up a bottle of PE when I'm out. Thanks.

Chain L. Wipe off after every ride. Weird odor but you grow to like it.
I think its chain saw oil and licorice. Works very well. Third year using it.

It's not so much what's on the roads here but rather what's blowing around in the air.

Gotcha. Yeah, luckily we've got pretty air up here.

Just wondering if anyone has used this lube and what your thoughts or experience is on this product:

3 in 1 oil from the hardware store. I get ~3300 miles for 1/16 elongation.
I tried Boeshield, Pedros Synthetic, 3:1 homebrew. I got ~1700 miles using those. YMMV
