Is cycling ruining your social life with the opposite sex?
I guess this thread would be for the single guys and gals. I noticed that lately cycling has really taken a lot of my time. I stopped going out on dates on Saturday nights because I have to wake up early Sunday morning for rides with certain groups and such. When I am out with a lady friend on a Saturday night, I end the evening early. I end it around 9 PM because again, I have to wake up early on Sunday. During the time when I am out all I think about is riding next day. Now my lady friend is kinda losing interest.
It's also with my friends. Whenever they call me out to hang out saturday nights, I tell them I can't because I have to wake up early. Now they stopped calling me out. I actually look more forward to the group rides with people I barely know then to hang out with friends. I don't know if this is healthy.
Anyone else have this problem?

As a married guy, it seems to me that the single biker friends I have are doing great... lots of fit active people to hang out with, who have similar priorities and interests.

Meh. It was when I got married that it started ruining things.
Anyway, I'm guessing you're relatively young. As long as you're getting enough sleep most other nights, why can't you just live it up a little on Friday or Saturday night? Unless you're looking to turn pro, you're not missing out on much. Also, it sounds like you need to start showing a little interest in whatever the lady friend likes to do. If not to participate, to listen and round out your obsession a tad.

With the gender ratio in cycling something like 20:1, I'm kinda surprised at this.

As a married guy, my social life with the opposite sex is long gone. If I was younger and single, I would probably spend less time cycling and more time dating. I took up cycling because I was looking for the fountain of middle age.

How much sleep do you need? I usually play cards until midnight or one a couple times a week and get up at 430. Plenty of time to sleep when you're dead.

+1 When I shaved my legs, girls wanted to feel them, offered to let me feel theirs in return, and then wanted to share shaving advice. Granted, this was in middle school, but I got molested more often then than any other time in my life!

sounds like you're losing interest in them (ladies and non ladies) actually. If you really wanted to have more of a social life, you'd prioritize that over cycling. As for that being healthy...it's great cardio! A little more seriously though, try doing every other week. Or hang out on Fridays.

I work early Saturday morning so going out on friday nights is out of the question. I have to get to work at 5 am saturday morning. I'm not exactly young. I'm in my 30s. I should be looking to settle down therefore I need to meet the ladies. But cycling is so much fun. I can go out cycling on my own the whole day and still have fun. The ladies I know don't like active things. Well sports wise.

I'm old and married, but nothing much happening here at the house, but there are several attractive friendly women around my age that show up for various rides. So for me, that's just a little more motivation to get out there and ride.

Sounds like you need to meet some new ladies! There are plenty of us active ladies that enjoy being out on bikes as much as the next guy. (Warning though: you may be the one expected to stay home with the babies so she can go on a long ride without them every week. Luckily my husband has accepted that fact without too much complaining, especially now that we have twins and a toddler. I NEED MY BIKING FIX WITHOUT THEM!)

Balance my friend, is what you need to exercise. We ride so we can feel good about ourselves. When we feel good about ourselves - we exude confidence, which is infectious to women. This also trickles down to how good we look to the opposite sex. Never forget that. I know many ladies who hold high regard to cyclists. One of my "dreams" in life is to date an avid female cyclist...or convert one. Look at the big picture...its NOT all about the bike. I'm 100% guilty of spending MORE on my bike than I did on dates - by 5 to one!

Ride at noon if you were out late the night before. I've gotten up early for a bike ride maybe 4 times in my life, and they were all for organized rides that people setup at ungodly hours of the morning. The day is a bit warmer, but who cares?
I certainly would never end a date because I wanted to ride my bicycle.
