Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'll be on the road by 5:30AM. You have to get up pretty early to ride with Uncle Pcad.

I left the house at 5:50am for my normal 24 mile loop before getting ready for work. Between the Kentucky temperature/humidity and traffic, there is no better time to ride than sunrise.

+1. I have started doing a regular hilly 45-50km ride on Tuesdays (5-7am) and a 45-50km flat-ish ride on Wednesdays. I am really appreciating the cooler temperatures early in the day.

5:30am - 20 mile ride with my neighbor. 16.3 mph average. My friend pulled 90% of the time. Without him I'd probably average ~14-15mph

They're predicting rain, wind, and 4C at about 5 am ... and it will be black as night out there, because ... well ... it is night out there at that time, at this time of year.

There's a chance of sleet or hail, and a slim chance of snow.

So no, at 5 am, I'll be sound asleep in my nice warm bed.

It's too dark to be out that early. I can't get a good ride when it's too dark. Even with lights.

I was rolling by 5:30, but I had to wait for my riding buddy until 6:05. Here's what we did:
