Progress.

So at the Orange County Bicycle Club Wednesday Night World TT Championships (informal, self-timed 6.1 mile course) I rode much better than last time, when I was only about a week out of the hospital. 17:10 last time. 15:50 tonight. From the Humble Pie Dept. we have Dave Freifelder, one of the fastest guys in NJ (he's a 1 or a 2 35ish fast guy) who smoked the course in 13:33. We do suspect Dave of mechanical doping, but until the OCBC CT Scanner is repaired we will be unable to check for the electrical motor we think he has in his seat tube.

The good news is that I got beat by 3 guys but also beat 4 guys this time. Two guys beat me last time, you know, two guys who you're looking at the times and saying to yourself WTF, I'm faster than those guys. My time tonight was 25-30 seconds faster than those two, that that was nice.

I'm still fat. I can get faster than this. Oh yes. Felt much better tonight on the P3. I am aeroerer now. To translate that time into Fredese, I think that's an average speed of about 23 mph. The faster guys are about 24-25 mph on that course. Freifelder up there, that guys so far out of my pathetic league it's a bit ridiculous.

Bottom line: I'm starting to get some fitness back after being in the hospital with a near-death experience only a few weeks ago so that's very cool. Man that P3 is a fast bike, and it does ride like butter, particularly in the aero position. Very comfortable on it now.

patentcad 07-06-11 08:06 PM

Average speed just about 23 mph on the nose, average power about 255 watts. When I'm fitter I should be able to average 280+ watts for that distance. I think I can lower the bars on the P3 one more notch and hopefully stay comfortable. Hoping another 20+ watts at FTP and a lower aero profile might get me that 1 mph. An aero helmet would help, I did that time with a regular non-aero Giro lid. Man those TT bikes are fast on the downgrades. Wow.

patentcad 07-06-11 08:06 PM

Man riding that TT bike that is big fun. I do like it.

Wested 07-06-11 08:09 PM

fat

hooligancyclist 07-06-11 08:10 PM

How many kg? 68 kg, 1 hour=280 watts here. cat 5. Would like to try a RR.

I won't be so fat in a month. It's coming off. As for Kg, that's not so relevant on flat TT courses. Bottom line is that skinny gives you better W/Kg numbers AND it makes you more aerobic. Hell, I'm over 180 lbs, if I get under 170lbs I think I can get considerably faster. Felt better on the bike tonight than I have all year, I was going much better. Average cadence for that 15+ minute ride was 102. Average HR 176. That's where those numbers are when I'm healthy, so that's very encouraging considering where I was a month ago. The power is down, but that will come back and the weight will come off.

Very positive tonight. I'm not fast compared to anybody. I'm fastER than I was before and I can get faster still. I'm only racing myself.

You don't get a big clock and put it by the finish line?

It's on the honor system, which may not be possible in your Gomer Weasel World.

patentcad 07-07-11 02:41 AM

I can see my cycling exploits garner zero respect, even in the 41.

You'll see. You'll all see.

I am new, so you prolly dont give a damn what I think... But I am glad you are doing better!

Due to work I had to put off my weekday rides for a few weeks. I gained a few pounds but my average times over my route are the highest they have ever been

Maybe "Fat is Faster"?

I'm impressed with your average heart rate. And well done on the effort too.

dgasmd 07-07-11 04:26 AM

Good for you, but when did you get a Cervelo P3?? It must be buried in one of those hundreds of pages thread I bet. So, what is in your stable now? S2, P3, Scott Addict?, Cannondale???

SBRDude 07-07-11 04:48 AM

It's always great to see self-improvement on the bike, so congrats on the ride.

We have an informal Tuesday night TT around here as well, but I have never done it. I have an old Kestral triathlon bike and dusting it off and making it rideable is just too much for my lazy ass.

Very good. Imagine, given your recent health history how much better you may have done...but given your still getting back your previous level of fitness, excellent work.

Wait. Isn't this the part where you tell me that you used to be a pro, Shimano sucks and Obama can't get re-elected?

Impressing the newbies is very important, so this makes me happy.

No it's not :P

Glad you are doing better, but I still don't feel bad for giving you heck about Di2. The floggings will continue.

I did LOL though at 'aeroerer'.

patentcad 07-07-11 09:12 AM

It was about 90º yesterday for that short TT. Perfect conditions.

patentcad 07-07-11 09:32 AM

I'm getting thinner you know. Oh man you are all totally, utterly, completely, effed beyond your collective Fred Comprehension.
