Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pump Suggestions?

My Blackburn floor pump does not cut the mustard.
I'm looking for some suggestions?

Thanks

Whats the problem with your Blackburn? I'm looking at getting one but I'm a bit unsure as to what I should be looking for.

I have a Topeak Twister which has served me pretty well over the years.

Sorry everyone, but I can't help repeating myself:

The Zephal HPX is a GREAT pump. You can get a squillion psi out of them, and
they last for ages.

I also have a Silca floor pump which is very good, but I switched the end
for a BBB "flip-top".

Blackburn has an excellent reputation for customer service.
One of the reasons I got mine. They'll fix it.

Don't get the Park Tool floor pump. I purchased one recently and I am really dissatisfied. It looks real nice, has a nice big gauge but when I hook it to the tire I have to fiddle with all the plastic fittings in order for it to hold pressure. It took me 15 minutes to pump my tires up last week.

I have been using a Silca Pump for over 20 years. Built to Last. Love it so much I bought one last year and gave it to a friend.

Pick up a floor pump in the store. Look closely at the plastic (since most of them are made out of plastic these days), look at the hose, the barrel and the handles. If the barrel is made out of a cheap plastic forget it it would last and you won't get decent inflation. Also look at the valve. Most problems and failures happen here. The plastics they use are cheap and the lever used to secure the valve breaks.

Also ask your self if you really need the gage on the pump. Most of the time the pump falls over and damages the gauge or breaks the clear plastic (they dont use glass anymore). Get yourself a separate gauge that will be more accurate and durable. I highly recommend Silca but have not been impressed with Blackburn or Topeak floor pumps.

Okay Some clarifications...
Nothing against Blackburn, but it's the TP-1. I'll blame my ignorance and the shop on selling me a mediocre pump. It won't inflate over 80psi and I've had 2 pinch flats this week and now gotta replace rear tire.

Thanks for the help!

I just bought a new pump. I had a serfas PP100 it worked ok for about 10 months and then the connector that goes to the presta valve started to leak air, so I bought a Topeak Joeblow Turbo on line for $36.00. This thing is the mac-daddy of pumps with a top guage that goes to 11 Bar or 160PSI, and it has a bleed off button, in case you over fill. Have fun and good hunting ( shopping ).

I havw the Blackburn Track Pump Pro. It's a nice pump, but then it cost $50, for that kind of dough it better be.

I own a schwinn pump. I know it's not a superprofesional pump i'm sure most bikers use, as I bought it a the local store, but it's pretty decent. I like it because i can pump everything from basketballs, boats, and bikes. It's cheap, pumps real well.
