Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

team jacket?

the windbreakers i've seen at the LBSs are all crap - i just don't get it, those things are like rain poncho's - even the Pearl stuff is way too baggy.

the real roadies i see have jackets that look just like a long sleeve team jersey with logos and such only the zipper goes all the way down and they're a windproof material - still tight fitting though.

where can i get something like that (i guess i have to order online) and what size would i be? i'm 6'4" but only ~180lbs so i need something long that isn't big through the body at all.

thx, but i think i wanna find a place to order one of those team jersey looking jackets even if it's kinda pricey. i don't want any blowing up or flapping around at all and event the collar of that one you linked looks like the wrong sorta thing.

Assos makes a pretty sweet version, I know REI just released its own windproof soft shell, Craft and Bergamo too.

thanks smoothie! that's just what i was talking about. any clue what size would be right for somebody as tall and skinny as me? i guess i need to measure my chest.

also, smoothie - how would you rate the heaviness of the Manotex Winter Jacket vs. the Long Sleeved Winter Jersey?

i guess i'm looking for something to use riding in temps in the 40s and 50s.

The Manotex is Windproof I believe, and a little stiffer fabric than the regular long sleeve jersey, Being windproof is going to make it a LOT warmer...

smoothster, you were the one with the hookup originally and i thank you. sadly it was like pulling teeth getting size info from that chick at probikekit.com so even though their prices were good i opted to shop locally because i think i'd have had to return it to the UK if it didn't work out and i'm in DC so that's a big hassle. i figure i'll wave down a proper roadie if i see somebody really tall and ask them what size they've got on... or something..

i still might get one sooner or later, but in the meantime i got two items on sale from performance that i'm pretty happy with. neither are as sexy as the Manotex team jackets, but both are satisfyingly tight fitting and together i have a lot of colder weather options...

a Pearl Escalation Jersey for $80 which is good for when it's just chilly but not cold:

and a GORE Windstopper jacket for $119 which i thought was a fair price - it seems like a nice piece of gear but it hasn't been cold enough here to test it yet:

my only complaint is that if these jackets had those double zippers that could come up from teh bottom they wouldn't have this one sort of roll of extra fabric when you're bent over.

still though - two jackets of different weight for $200 and a few extra bits to keep my extremities warm and i think i'm about ready.

thanks again for the help and for knowing what i was asking for even though i didn't know myself.
