Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Passed bikers, cat, nuns, dragon. I am addicted, and I believe.

Yesterday, I went on a ride around a local lake. I am still pretty new, and have been doing pretty low-level intensity rides for the past few weeks. On my second lap around the lake though, I decided to cook it.

("Cook it", in this context, means to go fast while riding a bike)

It...was...AWESOME

It was like I was flying...on a bike...

I flew by trees and bushes!
I flew by other cyclists! Even ones going the same direction as me!
I flew by bushes!
I flew by dogs, and even a cat!
I flew by a group of nuns! They had a very worried look on their faces.
I flew by a freaking DRAGON!!!

Now all I can think about is that feeling and how good it felt. I want to feel it again, and I want it to last longer.

So to summarize...

I believe in the ability of cycling to change people's lives.
I believe in the training programs.
I believe in the power of 90 RPM.
I believe I am now addicted to cycling.

Ok I went back and read what I just wrote, and I don't want you all to think I'm on drugs or anything.

The "DRAGON" was this weird thing that looked like a recumbent bike but it had a round structure on the front. And the whole thing was covered in a yellow spandex wrapping. All you see was yellow spandex with a guy's head sticking out the top. Also there was a red dragon design on the spandex.

I haven't seen anything like that before.
Also, it had a flashing light on top, like an airplane.

Cool, though. Next time take a camera and document these magical things you fly by. I'd even be interested if they were all blurry from your speed.

Apparently nuns take walks too...
There were three of them, and they were all wearing their blue nun outfits and nun hats.

It's a recumbent with a fairing.
