When it's too dirty, or after I crash, or if I did a poor job and it's started to unravel after a while, or if I just feel like changing the colour. It's cheap, I like to change it up.

If you want white bar tape that stays pretty clean, check out the Fizik microtex bartape. I have white tape as well and the Fizik stays pretty clean. Every couple of weeks when it starts to look dirty I use some soapy water and it cleans right up and looks as good as new. Really low maintenance. And it looks good to boot.

um, I hope to have the tape on my most recently purchased bike redone at the end of the month. I think it is the original 1974 tape....

It's not cork type tape, but if you insist on keeping your bar tape white (I have two bikes with white tape) Lizard Skins makes a white tape that can be washed, is durable and has good grip even when wet.

I ride white bar tape, (fizik dual), with gloves on so it doesnt start to get really grubby till near the end of the season. in the middle of the winter I change my tape, cables, and chain. I also have my wheels tensioned and trued. this year Im going to try to rebuild my record shifters.
