How often do you change bar tape ?
Once a year? Every 1000km? 5000km? When it looks skanky? Never?
Just wondering........ Post your fav tape too if you've got one. |
After a crash or when it starts to look worn :)

I change it when I feel like it.
|
Black tape gets changed every 1 to 3 years. White tape, every 1 to 3 months.
|
Once a year, whether it needs it or not. Just for the change.
|
Thanks guys. Currently looking my white SRAM tape which is getting pretty damn dirty, but not otherwise worn apart from the odd scuff. Its about a year and many '000s km old. To change or not?
|
White tape is just bad news...
It's pro, but pros also put new tape on daily. |

I pretty much replace when worn. I'm using the Stella Azzura Eleganza. Best tape I've used so far. Its got a tacky feeling without being sticky or gummy.

I wash mine when I give my bike a good scrub-a-dub. Windex works wonders.
I also put on fresh tape before an "A" race because everyone knows bikes with new bar tape are faster. |
Since I ride different bikes, bar tape doesnt get worn that fast. My Bontrager tape is sensational!
|
I unwrap the bars and put the tape in the washing machine with my bibs.
Every day, every ride. Body filth on bar tape can cause canker sores and gout. |

I guess saddle sores are a myth then? If you haven't had them then they must not exist.

Now did I ever say that sweetheart?
I think not. Run along now. Of course you're right dear. No, no, you never said that. You never said that despite how often you ride in unwashed bibs you continually fail to develop saddle sores. Nope. Not you. I know. Yes, I know. I'm a bad man. |
When it starts to wear. Mine will be replaced soon. It's been about ten months, and lots of riding in the rain.
Cork tape is great! |
My favorite tapes would be Deda, Cinelli, Fizik and any other brand that is on sale and I happen to like. But those are my top 3. Currently on Fizik with a stash of others.

I shellac mine so if it gets dinged and scratched I just put on a fresh coat, or touch it up. but I drill holes in the shellac to reduce weight.
