The wife of one of the riders had a run in with a triathlete on a local bike path over the weekend and he decided to jump in with the other 2 who didn't like my bike and they convinced the rest of the group that I was an accident waiting to happen. He seemed apologetic, and stood up for me with another rider, but they eventually gave in to the very angry guys who wanted me out. Seems like it was partially about the bike, and partially about one guy getting really pissed off that some guy in a sleeveless jersey almost hit his wife and taking it out on me.

The problem isn't some handling issue with TT bikes. The real problem is that 90% of the tri geeks out there are Velo Morons who are dangerous in a pace line. If you know what the eff you're doing a TT bike handles (on the cowhorns) much like a regular road bicycle.

no, it's a fact that tri bikes are harder to handle...its their geometry...yes you can be a good rider and handle a tri bike well, but you can also be a bad rider and handle a road bike horribly...it comes down to the rider and the comfort level of the group. In this case it came down to the wife...which was a total ***** move since shes not the one riding in the group...

Triathlons go Swim>Bike>Run. For faster transitions triathletes leave the shoes clipped onto the bike. They mount on the move, then get their feet inside the shoe. That's why triathlon biking shoes have 1 large velcro strap. |
We have strong tri geeks on our main group ride. One of them can't handle his road bike for crap. Drives me nuts, but I give him space and try not to get stuck with his wheel when I'm in line. We don't have a policy on the aero bars but common sense prevails.
