Strava is going to unlimited uploads with their free plan
As ridewithgps starts trying to charge for service, strava is going to free uploads. I use strava only for long rides because they have that 5 free upload limit. once it becomes free im probably going to make it my main place to upload my data. i had already decided to do their $6 a month plan but i want to see now what $6 membership will offer.
the thing will will suck now is that with new members probably joining my rankings will suffer...so instead of being 70th in a certain climb, i might drop down to 90th or even 100th...damn it!

well im in the bay area...
and im sure your climbs will start getting more people with the free service now. i like competition...so i say bring it on...even though every time i check it lets me know how slow i am...at least i can see if im improving or not.

or example here's a ride where i won the kom on one for one of the climbs in my area while doing tempo. strava is also missing the majority of the climbs people actually use for training.

well you know i dont think strava makes the segments...its people that create the segments and strava just ranks the data.
well sure theres always going to be faster people...but no other websites gives me feedback like strava about my pace compared to other riders.

Where did you see this news, and when does it start? I'm using SportyPal Pro right now, and it sounds like the exact same idea, but Strava looks more streamlined.

well you have to ride the route first...then once you upload you can select to make a segment from the ride you just did. strava takes that segment and creates rankings according to other people that have ridden the same route.

Thanks for the post, this got me to try out Strava.
I uploaded a sample climb I did, and there are 300 people that have done it. How the heck do I find out my rankings for segments without having to scroll through the results list for all 25 segments of this 1 ride?

i was kind of psyched when i read this post, so i put Strava on my iPhone and left it in my jersey pocket during today's ride.
it was a 24 mile ride around Central Park.
My Garmin recorded 24 miles.
Strava recorded 4.9 miles, with an average speed of 5.9mph.
so, the iPhone app is unreliable, and therefore useless to me. i realize this is probably more ATT's fault.
maybe this would be fun for a recreational cyclist.

that's great, but the bottom line is that if it's not reliable, it's not for me.
