I liked the Synapse team replica... now I need to buy a team leg's replica to go with it.

Just bought a Supersix, but I had LBS order a leftover 2011 from Cdale. Why? Cuz I wanted DA7900 and that is no longer available on the Supersix -- only Ultegra. You have to upgrade to the Evo frame to get DA, and that costs $2k more than DA on a Supersix.

Bike came in this week, I'm out of town but getting back tomorrow, will pick up Monday. Getting stoked!

I might have my LBS order the frame and put 105/Apex on it and shed the Tiagra.

I was thinking of a custom build up yesterday, but when I put everything together it was so more expensive then the whole bike that it wasn't even funny. Albeit I would put in a nicer wheelset, tires and saddle.

Don't hold your breath on this. Last winter, I tried to order a frameset through my Cannondale LBS to replace the too-small CAAD9 frame I was riding. Basically, if it doesn't have "Hi-Mod" somewhere in the frameset's name, you can't order it. I ended up with a Specialized Allez Comp frameset.

I'm sure if I told them to order the complete bike and just swap out Tiagra for 105, they'd help out. More $$ for them.

Maybe - depends on whether they think they can sell the take-off parts.

Another thought, though...Tiagra for 2012 is ten speed. Might not be cost-effective to swap it out.

I'm wondering what advantage does 105 have over Tiagra now since both are 10 spd. looks to me that they are overlapping. If you are a weight weenie you will probably want the higher end, if you are an enthusiast, recreational 105 will probably be good enough.

Did the 2012 Synapses still have that proprietory seatpost? The only reason I've crossed them off the list is that weird seatpost. The longest (special order) post they have for the synapse is a 330mm... I need 400...which means I also need a bike that takes a "normal" round seatpost.

The cassette that's offered with ten speed Tiagra is a 12-30, so it's apparently an answer to SRAM's Apex.

It won't handle the casette with over 30 teeth, shift under load, or offer the ability to size the shifters like Apex does. You can put a huge casette on Apex. Not on Tiagra. The ability to run compact with that big casette kills most systems at the level.

It's not remotely the same.

Shifters, casette, chain, rear derailleur, yadda. The shifters are not even close.

IIRC they are gone for this year. Not 100% on that though.

Too bad C'dale went to Asia for everything now and either raised or kept prices. No more C'dale being synomanious with "Made in USA".
In any case I am drooling over the new Synapse 3 w/ ultegra. Or a Giant Defy Advanced 1 or a Specialized Roubaix SL3.

They have gone back to round from that "aero" post they used in 2012, other than that they aren't much different from the 2011. I have been looking at these and my LBS said the reason for the change was that the "aero" post made the frame more stiff/harsh by not allowing flex which was counter to what they wanted for the bike. Looking at the post in the photos it still doesn't look normal...but it loks like it tapers at the top, maybe to add some flex or maybe to gain some aero benefit...but you should be able to swap it out assuming the post diameter is standard.

Shimano already had an answer to Apex: the cross compatibility between mountain and road rear derailers took care of that. (The front, of course, are not cross compatible.) My CX bike runs a 105 group with a Deore LX rear derailer. Problem solved.

Unless the new shifters are no longer cross compatible...
